James D. Bailey

James D. Bailey, 57, entered into rest Thursday, February 6, 2014. Jim was born May 16, 1956 in Glendale, California, to the late James E. and Marjorie A. (White) Bailey.

Jimmy had a passion for all types of music. He enjoyed fishing and riding his Harley. He was known for his laugh, and if you knew Jimmy, you knew his laugh.

He is survived by his loving soul mate of 25 years, Marie Love; stepson, Jeremy Love; sisters, Debbie (Sam) Williams, Nancy (Ted) Dodd, Elaine (Brian) Minoux and Peggy Alexander; his brother-in-law, Lou Arbolita; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Sandy Arbolita; and his faithful furry companion, Woody.

A memorial gathering will be held for Jimmy, Friday, February 14, 2014, from 6 until 8 P.M., at Waite and Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Medina Health Ministry or to Jimmy’s family, in care of Waite and Son Funeral Home.

Venette Ann Powell

Powell.VanetteBeloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Venette Powell, 82, passed away at home Monday, February 10, 2014, amongst her immediate family.

A lover of life, Venette remained active in bowling, golf, sewing, and family, and worked around her friends at Wal-Mart until last year, completing 10 years of service. Her strength never wavered and her sense of humor remained throughout, but what was always most apparent was her undying love for husband, children, and grandkids. Whether or not you knew Venette, she was never a stranger for long, and you knew you were better for knowing her.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Donald R. Powell; six children, Teri Allen of Bathgate, Scotland, Steve Powell of Medina, Ann Powell (Dave) Gee of Medina, Paul (Shonda) Powell of Reno, Nevada, Jason Powell of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Angela Powell of Sharon, Pennsylvania; as well as 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind brothers, Eugene (MaryLou) Voelk and Chuck (Linda) Lindquist.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn; and her brother, Larry; as well as her parents.

Visitation will be offered Friday, February 14, 2014, 6 until 8 P.M., at Waite Funeral Home, 765 N Court St, Medina. A Memorial service will be held at St. Pauls’ Episcopal Church, 317 E. Liberty St., Medina, on Saturday, February 15, 2014, 3:30 P.M., with a gathering afterward in the parish dining room.

Venette, you will be missed. Your light will always shine bright in our hearts!

Wiles,GerryGerry L. Wiles, 86, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2014, in Medina. Gerry was born January 25, 1928 in Cleveland, to the late Dr. William and Gladys (Hoover) Davis. She taught school at Applewood Elementary School in Brunswick, and retired after 29 years of teaching. Gerry was involved with the youth all of her life, being a Boy Scout, Girl Scout, and 4-H Leader. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and Delta Kappa Gamma, life member of the Eastern Star Masonic Order, and a charter member of Medina Presbyterian Church USA, where she served as an Elder.

Gerry is survived by her loving husband, Lloyd, to whom she was married 65 years; loving mother of David Wiles of Cincinnati, Dr. Kathleen Wiles of Massillon, and Karen (Edward) Crockett of Columbus; devoted grandmother of Lori (Chris) Marmon, Jeffrey (Erin) Wiles, Ben Crockett, Andrew Crockett, and Jaymes Wiles; great-grandmother of Olivia, Julia, Joshua, and Avery; and dear sister of Shirley Vacha of Parma Heights. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, William and Robert Davis.

Family will receive friends Saturday, February 15, 2014, from 10 until 11 A.M., at Medina Presbyterian Church, 5020 Burgundy Bay Blvd., Medina, with services to follow at 11 A.M. Reverend Henry Pierce will officiate.

In keeping with Gerry’s love of youth, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Medina Presbyterian Church Youth Fund at the above address.

Barbara A. Bock

BockBarbaraBarbara A. Bock (nee Towt), 76, of Medina, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 13, 1937 in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Louis and Elsie (nee Jordan) Towt.

Barbara was very active in her church, First Church of Christ, Scientist in Medina, Medina County Show Biz Theatre and she enjoyed knitting and crocheting gifts for family and friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and animal lover.

Barbara will be dearly missed by her children, Daniel (Cheryl) Bock of Seville, William (Ramona) Bock of Cherry Valley, Illinois and Wes Bock of Fremont, California; grandchildren, Annie, Heather, Paul, Stephanie, Meredith, Joshua, Brian; and four great-grandchildren. Barbara also leaves behind her adoring cats, Edward and Chip.

At Barbara’s request, no services will be held. Inurnment will take place in Sunset Memorial Park, 6265 Columbia Rd., North Olmsted 44070, and will be announced at a later date. Friends will be invited to join at that time.

Helen J. Sands

Helen J. Sands, 87, of Medina, passed away Monday, February 10, 2014. She was born June 16, 1926 to Frank and Justine (nee Germek) Germack in Cleveland.

Helen was a member of UAW, having worked for 35 years at General Motors’ Fisher Body Plant. She will always be cherished by her family as a loving mother, as well as a great cook and homemaker.

Helen is survived by her beloved daughter, Patricia (Stuart) Neal of Medina; cherished sister, Mary Lou Throop of Geneva; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Leroy W. Sands; son, Jerry Sands; brother, Walter Germack, as well as her parents

A Memorial Mass will be held for Helen Friday, February 14, 2014, 10 A.M., at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 606 E. Washington St., Medina. Father John Lee will officiate. A private interment will take place at Whitehaven Memorial Park in Mayfield Village.

Gregory A. Norenberg

Gregory A. Norenberg, 62, of Medina, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2014. He was born March 21, 1951 in Toledo, to Glenn and Joan (Barut) Norenberg.

Gregory attended Aspen Tech, Carnegie Mellon University and University of Toledo, where he graduated with his Bachelors in Chemical Engineering. After graduation he began his career in January 1974 with Standard Oil Company of Ohio, where he provided process engineering to Sohios’ Refining Group. He also provided engineering design and process applications for the Paraho Oil State Project. Gregory served as Pump Station Manager in Alaska for the Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. and led Mitsui Toatsu Chemical Malcic Anhydride joint venture in Osaka, Japan. He managed developmental program Lurgi O Gas Chemie AG in Frankfort, Germany. Since 2003 Gregory was an independent consultant providing direction and technical support to Fortune 500 and other domestic and foreign firms. He holds various patents for reactor engineering and process engineering designs.

Gregory belonged to many professional affiliations including, Tau Beta Pi, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and University of Toledo Alumni Association. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns. He had a great love of animals, especially his dachshund dogs, Herman, Gunther and Maximillian.

Gregory is survived by his cherished mother, Joan Norenberg; his soul mate and companion of 30 years, Lynn Smith; sister, Julia (Richard) Norenberg-Novak; brother, Mark Norenberg; nieces, Laura and Christine Novak; nephew, Aaron Norenberg; great-nephew, Timothy Novak D’Agostino; and an aunt, Dorothy (Michael) LaBay.

He was preceded in death by his loving father, Glenn.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 10 A.M. at St. Francis Xavier Church, 606 E. Washington St., Medina. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Waite and Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M.

Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society or the SPCA of Medina.

Cook_GaryGary A. Cook, 58, of Brunswick, passed away peacefully Friday, February 14, 2014. He was born October 13, 1955, to Howard and Victoria (nee Kalvaitis) Cook in Cleveland.

He worked as a machinist for Swagelok for 38 years. Gary was a longtime member of the Brunswick Eagles, enjoyed going camping, classic cars and especially riding his Harley Davidson. He was always willing to lend a hand and help anyone out.

Gary will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 10 years, Deanne; loving children, Christin, Jill and Ryan Cook, all of Brunswick; step children, Justin (Kathy) Rath of Medina, and Rebecca Rath of Brunswick; dear grandchildren, Madison, Brooklyn and Cullen Rath; brother, Howard (Carole) Cook; and twin sister, Cathy (Dennis) Fortesque, as well as many other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Richard.

Family will receive friends Monday, February 17, 2014 from 4 to 8 P.M. at Waite and Son Funeral Home, Brunswick Chapel, 3300 Center Road, Brunswick. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 11 A.M. in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Brunswick.

Donna J. Hutchings

HutchingsDonnaDonna J. Hutchings, 80, of Medina, passed away, surrounded by her loving family, Sunday, February 16, 2014. Donna was born in Cleveland to the late Glen and Helen Rothermel.

At age 14, Donna met her soul mate, Walter Hutchings, whom she later married and became his loving partner for 43 years, until his passing in January 2000. Before her marriage to Walter, Donna worked as an executive assistant for American Home Builders Association in downtown Cleveland.  After raising her four children, she worked for Omni-International for 15 years.  In addition to her professional interests, she was an avid gardener and chef, who loved entertaining.  Most of all, Donna loved her family and spending time with them was the most important thing to her.

Donna is survived by her children, David (Geri) Hutchings, Donald (Sue) Hutchings, Christine (Paul) Kelly and Julie (Ryan) Sibley; grandchildren, Mackenzie, Nicholas and Andrew Kelly and Walter Grant, Nathan and Evan Sibley; and brother, Jack Rothermel. 

Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2014, from 4 until 8 P.M., at The Chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, 6245 Columbia Rd., 44070. Funeral Services will take place Wednesday, February 19, 2014, 12 P.M., at The Chapel. Interment in Sunset Memorial Park, will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cups Cafe, P.O. Box 83, Medina, OH 44258 (in memoriam of Donna Hutchings), a non-profit organization for which Donna was a volunteer.

Sheila Tidd, 55, of Spencer, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, February 13, 2014. She was born June 21, 1958, to Harold and Esta (nee Sears) Ward in Fitzpatrick, West Virginia.

Sheila cherished her family and enjoyed spending time with her children and her beloved granddaughter Sophia. She worked as a nurse’s aide, cook at Black River High School, and as a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 40 years, Rex Tidd; children, Joseph and Brittany; brothers, Jesse, David and Mark; sisters, Linda, Laura and Becky; and granddaughter, Sophia.

She was preceded in death by her father Harold; and sisters, Bev and Nadine.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at 11:30 A.M., Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington. Burial will follow in Ohio Western Reserve Cemetery at 1:45 P.M.

Kathleen enjoyed crocheting, traveling and going to casinos. She also enjoyed expanding her collection of numerous kinds of treasures.

Kathleen will be dearly missed by her beloved husband of 50 years, Harold Dean; loving children, Kim Wolfram of Medina, Alan (Kimberly) Arthur of Strongsville, James Arthur of Brunswick and Kenneth (Joyce) Arthur of Pennsylvania; treasured grandchildren Sarah, Andrew, Emily, Megan, Art, Candice, Claire, Chrissy and Alexis; nine cherished great-grandchildren; and sisters, Jeanette and Nancy.

She is preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Natalie.

He will be deeply missed by his loving children, Patricia (William) Krueger, Billy (MaryKay) Reeder, Sr., Denise (Chris) Dunford, Karen (David) Malek and Cathy Reeder; treasured grandchildren, Nicole (Matthew) Oates, Billy, Jr. (Amanda) Reeder, Michael (Melinda) Taylor, Salena Zak, Amanda (Bruce) Foster, Kelly Dunford, Tara Curry, and Scott Dunford; 10 cherished great-grandchildren; and siblings, Jimmy (Pauline) Reeder, John (Sarah) Reeder, Yvonne (Bob) Ranaldi, Glenevier Dubulis, Wava Reeder, Margie (George) Galjan and Loretta Birtie.

Billie is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Kyle Curry; and brothers, Warren and Bobby Reeder.

OBIT FLAGJohn D. Douglass, Sr., 92, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2014, in Medina. John was born May 6, 1921 in Gallatin, Tennessee, to the late George and Sadie (Stilz) Douglass. John proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army Air Corps and continued his service as a reservist in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Ohio Bell Telephone Company after 37 years of service. Through his involvement with the Telecom Pioneers, John volunteered for the Cleveland Society of the Blind for many years. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Medina United Methodist Church.

John was the beloved husband of Mary (Freund) of 66 years; loving father of John, Jr., Craig (Amy) and Gary (Joan) Douglass; grandfather of Ben (Andi) Douglass, Dawn (John) Gannon, Steven (Britni) Douglass, Katie (Ron) Heinz, Julie (Brett) McNabb, and Renee and Michael Douglass; great-grandfather of Mitchell and Ella Heinz, Titus Gannon, and Ellianna Douglass; dear brother of George and Edward (Virginia) Douglass and Mary Helen McGlothlin.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 22, 2014, at 11 A.M., in Waite and Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. Reverend Brandon Keck will officiate. Friends may call Friday, February 21, 2014 from 6 until 8 P.M., and Saturday one hour prior to service from 10 until 11 A.M., at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Medina United Methodist Church, 4747 Foote Rd., Medina, OH 44256.
