Charles Edward Hargis

HargisCharlesCharles Edward Hargis, 79, of Creston, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at the Wooster Community Hospital. Charles was born October 6, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Gilbert and Floretta (Broyles) Hargis.

He married the love of his life, Juanita Glass, July 28,1956 and she preceded him in death on February 9, 2012. He retired from the City of Strongsville after 21 years of service. He had lived in Creston since 2001, having previously lived in Wooster and Strongsville.

Surviving are his two children, Tina (Ronald )Shaw of Homerville and Thomas (Tracey) Hargis of Wadsworth; grandchildren, Joseph (Oshean) Shaw, Jonathan (Ashley) Shaw, Lauren (Cory) Dreibelbis, Jamie (Justin) Haumesser and Holly (Chris) Traxler; great-grandchildren, Shawn, Madison, Lillith, Coltin Ryan, Emma and Justin; and a brother, James (Katherine) Hargis.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a grandson, Jeffrey Shaw; and a sister, Annis Srnoyachki.

The Hargis family will receive friends at Genesis Conference and Party Center, 10265 Wooster Pike Road, Creston, Ohio, Saturday, February 22, 2014, from 12 until 4 P.M.

Gerald “Gary” Allen Grogg, 51, of Loudonville, died Thursday afternoon, February 6, 2014, in Southwest General Hospital, Middleburg Heights, after a sudden illness. He was born December 2, 1962, in Loudonville, the son of Harold G. and Dorothy (Stitzlein) Grogg.

Gary was a graduate of Loudonville High School and the Ashland County West Holmes Career Center. He was in the construction and maintenance departments for Ken Cleveland Builders Inc., since 1999.

Gary is survived by his companion, Amy Eidens; one brother, Richard “Rick” Grogg; and one sister, Wanda (Brian) Odenkirk, all of Loudonville.

Friends may call Sunday, February 9, 2014, from 1 until 4 P.M., in Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville, with the funeral services following at 4 P.M.

Waleri_DavidDavid Waleri, 35, of Medina, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, February 5, 2014, in his home. He was born July 2, 1978, to Ronald and Elberta (nee Kirby) Waleri in Middleburg Heights.

David enjoyed camping, kayaking, hiking, biking and playing his guitar. He also enjoyed socializing through his meet-up group.

David will be deeply missed by his beloved fiancee, Kerrie Riegel; loving mother, Elberta; treasured siblings, James (Lee) Waleri and Robin (fiance Joe Jackson, Jr.) Michalak; and nieces and nephews Anthony, Bethany Tayler, Jacob and Emily.

He is preceded in death by his father, Ronald.

Family will receive friends Sunday, February 9, 2014, from 4 until 8 P.M., at Waite and Son Funeral Home, 3300 Center Road, Brunswick. Service will be held Monday, February 10, 2014, 2 P.M., at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hinckley.

John enjoyed spending time outdoors in his yard and by his pond. John had a passion for great cars, especially the Caddies. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, son and uncle who loved his family.

He will be dearly missed by his beloved children, Jonathan (Michelle), Michelle Eberle and Rebecca (Terry); sister, Jeanne (John) Todsedly; his many grandchildren and great grandchildren; his former wife, Patricia Pyle and his trusty dog, Trucker.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Michael.

Lisle “Lyle” Gaylord

OBIT FLAGLisle “Lyle” Gaylord, 83, of Berea, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014. Lyle was born November 29, 1930 in Cleveland, to the late Lisle and Winifred (nee Goers) Gaylord. He had resided in Cleveland for many years prior to moving to Florida for five years and then returned to Medina and the last two years in Berea.

Lyle was a five year United States Navy veteran, serving as a Journalist for four years in the Korean Conflict. Lyle was a retired graphic artist with the Great Lakes Lithographs Cleveland. He was a former member of the Medina County Art League. Lyle enjoyed painting portraits and working with pastel designs. Lyle shared a love of barbershop singing with his wife and enjoyed cooking.

He leaves his children, Scott (Carolyn) Gaylord of Brunswick and Kelly (Gary) Flegel of Spencer; grandchildren, Ashlie, Zeke and Zeb Flegel, Jake and Rachel Gaylord.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Donna Gaylord in December 2001; sister, Beatrice (Harold) Green.

Private Interment will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.

There will be no calling hours. At Lyle’s request, cremation has taken place.

Janet L. Squire (nee Schlechter), 79, of LaGrange passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014, at Keystone Pointe in LaGrange. She was born March 4, 1934 in Amherst and was a former resident of Henrietta.

Janet was a graduate of Henrietta High School, Class of 1952. She was an LPN at Allen Memorial Hospital in Oberlin. She was also a professional seamstress at Jack Knight Drycleaners for 35 years. She was a member of the LaGrange United Methodist Church since 1957, active choir member, and a 4-H leader. Janet enjoyed gardening, sewing, and entered many items at Lorain County Fair competitions.

Mrs. Squire is survived by her husband of 59 years, Gilbert of LaGrange; daughter, Diane (Jerry) Brietkrenz of Wellington; sons, Jay (Michele) Squire of Grafton and Steve (Tami) Squire of Wellington; four grandchildren, Joanne Brietkrenz, Jonathan Brietkrenz, Adam (Katelyn) Brietkrenz, Cordellia Squire; and aunt of many.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Claudia M. Squire; sisters, Carolyn Holcomb and Emogene Schlechter; and parents, Harland and Bernice (nee Fowl) Schlechter.

Friends may call 3 until 7 P.M., Sunday, February 9, 2014, at Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria. Mrs. Mary Jean Pharis Poling, 78, a resident of Belington, West Virginia, passed away suddenly, Wednesday evening February 5, 2014, in the Emergency Department of the Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins. She had been in her usual health and death was sudden and unexpected.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 6 until 9 P.M., Saturday February 8, 2014, and again on Sunday from 8 A.M. until 2 P.M., the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Judy Flynn officiating. Interment will follow in the Talbott Cemetery near Belington.

Frances J. Schroeder, 86, of Chatham Twp., Ohio passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Akron City Hospital. She was born in Solon, Ohio on February 24, 1927 to Guy A. and Agnes E. Sperry Arnold and had lived most of her life in the Chatham area.

She was a 1945 graduate of Chatham High School and married her husband Albert on October 20, 1946 in the Chatham United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Chatham Community Church and past member of Chatham Fire Dept. Auxiliary.

Surviving include her husband, Albert; children, Linda (Ron) Emhoff of Tacoma, Washington, Mike (Mary Ann) Schroeder of Londonberry, New Hampshire, Julie (Wes) Emch of Kent, Ohio, Guy Schroeder of Spencer, Ohio, Marti (James) Brenza of Delaware, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Christopher, Dave, Sara, Andrew, Amanda, Samantha, Nicole and Stephanie; four great-grandchildren; brother, Alvin Arnold of Medina, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by grandson, Navy Corpman Luke Emch, killed in action in Iraq; and sisters, Alta Carlson and Mildred Northrup.

Funeral Service will be Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 11 A.M. at the Parker & Son Funeral Home, 210 Medina St., Lodi, Ohio Pastor Patty Silva will officiate.

Burial will follow at Chatham Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 11. 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Allan Ray Taylor, 80, of Grafton, passed away peacefully, Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Golden AcresTaylor_Allan Nursing Home, Amherst. Allan was born in Elyria, March 22, 1933 to the late Lyman Ray and Eleanor (nee Banister) Taylor. He was a lifelong resident of Lorain County.

Allan had been the bookkeeper for the former Klinect Bartlett TV in Grafton for many years. He and his wife loved to travel and visited all the US states except California. Allan enjoyed building model airplanes and he had love for animals.

Survived by his wife of 51 years, Myrtle Sue (nee Moore).

At Allan’s request, there will be no calling hours and cremation has taken place.

Robert Charles Michalak, 65, of Huntington Twp., Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February Michala_Robert6, 2014 at Pearlview Rehab and Wellness Center in Brunswick. He was born April 8, 1948 in Berea, Ohio to Raymond and Charlotte (Kluth) Michalak.

He grew up in North Olmsted and was later employed at Cleveland Crane and also Vet O Vitz Masonry in Brunswick. He had resided and farmed in Huntington for the past 40 years.

Surviving are his wife, Debra (nee Hintz), to whom he married on October 23, 1981 in Nova; children, Roberta Michalak of Wellington, Charlie Michalak of Wellington, Michael (Jennifer) Michalak of North Royalton, Daniel Michalak of Madison, New Jersey, Christine (Kyle) Oman of Palm Coast, Florida; seven grandchildren, Sarah, Dustin, Anthony, Lilly, Abagail, Adam, and Nathan; sister, Gail (Tom) Horner of Westlake; brothers, Tom (Stacie) Michalak of Spencer, Donald (Phyllis) Michalak of West Salem.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, David.

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 11, 2014 from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 P.M. at the Parker & Son Funeral Home, 202 E. Main St., Spencer (330-648-2180). A short memorial will begin at 7 P.M. at the funeral home, followed by a gathering and supper at Spencer Baptist Church, 302 W. Main St.

James Richard Seitters, 85, of Sullivan, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at hisSeitters_James home. He was born Jan. 17, 1929 in Elyria, to Earl and Mabel Davison Seitters.

Mr. Seitters had been an employee of MTD in Valley City for over 20 years. He had worked at Lodi Lumber Company and had also farmed for a number of years. He enjoyed working on farm machinery and the company of his pet cats.

He is survived by his wife Alta (Leverton) Seitters; two daughters, Tina (Charlie) Brown of New London, Ohio Anna (Wallace) Walls of Johnstown, Ohio; three sons, Tim (Darlene) Seitters of Sullivan, Mike W. Seitters of Johnstown, Ohio, Charles P. Seitters of Columbus, Ohio; ten grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Thelma Rifenburg of Elyria. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Raymond E. Seitters.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Barbara E. Wray, 79, of Rittman, formerly of Chippewa Lake, went home with her husband, Dean, to be Wray_Barbwith the Lord on Friday, February 7, 2014. She was born April 23, 1934 in West Virginia to Chester and Truby (Blankenship) Allen, Sr. and lived most of her life in the Chippewa Lake/Rittman area.

Barb married Dean Wray on September 17, 1957 and they had been happily married for 56 years. She was a homemaker and member of Rittman Community Free Will Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling and collecting dolls.

Surviving are sons, Karry Wray of Cleveland, Billy Wray of Pennsylvania, Joey (Lisa) Wray of Seville and David Wray of Pennsylvania; daughter, Debra (Larry) Richmond of Homerville; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brothers, Jimmy (Shirley) Allen of Seville, Chester Allen, Jr. of Medina, Jerry (Jorgia) Allen of Westfield and Randy (Isis) Allen of Medina; and sister, Mary Allen of Medina.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean Wray; brothers, Danny and Tommy Allen; and sisters, Virginia Wilmoth, Pam Newberger, and Diane Brown.

Service will be held Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 11 A.M. at Auble Gillman Funeral Home, 360 W. Sunset Dr., Rittman with Rev. John W. Castle officiating. Burial will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman at a later date. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. on Wednesday, February 12 at the funeral home.

Craig (Linda), Susan Bragg and Kevin; cherished grandmother of Kenneth, Michelle, Jacob, Emily, Michael and Craig; great grandmother of many; dear sister of Retta Mugnano, Dorothy Tongue, Lindsey and Gerald Ketterman and the late Josephine Ritter, Junior, Fred, John, Cody, Flo and Guy Ketterman. She is also also survived by many nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Scott E. Hinerman, 47, of West Salem, died Saturday, February 8, 2014 from a tragic accident. Scott was born October 19, 1966 in Medina, the son of Jack and Joan (Holtz) Hinerman.

He graduated from Cameron High School in 1985 from Cameron, West Virginia. He was a union plumber and pipefitter. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and Nascar racing. Scott lived life to the fullest and always had a goodtime. He was a member of Local 219 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union in Akron.

He is survived by his daughter, Jasmin Hinerman of Creston; parents, Jack and Joan Hinerman of West Salem; sisters, Jill (Patrick) Durrence of Kentucky and Sheila (Wayne) Smith of West Salem; brothers, Jeffrey Hinerman of Cleveland and David Hinerman of Johnstown, Ohio; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 11 A.M. at the Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem, with Rodney Nulph officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home Tuesday evening, February 11, 2014 from 6 to 8 P.M. Burial will be in West Salem Cemetery.

Ball_GailGail E. Ball (nee Snyder), 79, of Hinckley, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2014. She was the daughter of Neil and Dorothy (nee Elwood) Snyder. She was born on May 8, 1934 in Cleveland.

Gail was very active in the community; she was a volunteer at the Red Cross, Brunswick Food Pantry and Bennett’s Corner’s Methodist Church. She was a mother to many people. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many who loved spending time with her family.

Gail will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 63 years, Kenneth, Sr.; children, Kenneth, Jr., Dwayne (Cindi) Ball, Kimberly Burkey, Laura (Richard) Renz and John (Merideth) Ball; grandchildren, Lee Ann, Kendra, Brian, Shauna, Elizabeth, Jessica, Allison, Erin and Xander; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Terry Ball; and son-in-law, John Burkey.

Friends may join the family for a visitation Wednesday, February 12, 2014, 11 A.M. until 12 P.M., at Bennett’s Corners Methodist Church, 47 West 130th Street, Hinckley. A memorial service will follow at 12 P.M., at the church, with Pastor Marta Mathatas officiating. Inurnment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, at a later date.

Rita Brooks

BrooksRitaBorn in Valley City, Rita (Sailer) Brooks was the eldest of six children born to John and Ellen Sailer. She attended schools in Medina, and graduated from high school in 1938. During World War II, she was employed by Goodyear Aircraft as a riveter in the cramped fuselage of fighter planes. After World War II, she and her husband, Max Horton, raised three daughters in Medina. In 1959, Rita moved to Santa Barbara, California. Her career included 20 years at the Santa Barbara Medical Clinic and many years at Santa Barbara City College, where she retired.

Rita died two days before her 94th birthday after a very brief illness. She prided herself in having never been sick most of her life.

She is survived by her three daughters, Linda Bullard (Gary) of Sacramento, California, Karen Benjamin (William) of Santa Barbara, California and Kathleen Horton of Santa Paula, California. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Deborah Tennial, Jeffrey Horton, Kristian Sorensen, Sarah Benjamin, Lisa Benjamin and Alexandra Benjamin; four great-grandchildren, Michael Malanoski, Bradley Malanoski, Jennifer Malanoski and Logan Sorensen; and one great-great-grandchild, Michael Malanoski. Rita is also survived by a brother, Michael Sailer of Sarasota, Florida and Mary Davis of Elyria.

She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Cowling (nee Zirke), 57, resident of Montville Township, Medina, went peacefully with the Lord Monday, February 10, 2014, with her family by her side, after a year-long battle with cancer. She was born May 4, 1956, to Carl and Elizabeth Jean (nee McNamara) in Willowick. Mary and Thomas were married on July 13, 1982. Mary was a lover of animals; a kind and outgoing person. She loved with all her heart, her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her husband, Thomas; daughter, Sherri (Kevin) Shinsky; grandchildren, Chad and Cole; and brothers, Dick (Karen) Zirke, Bill, Terry (Marilyn), Tim (Monica).

She is preceded in death by her parents.

The family invites friends for a Memorial Visitation Saturday, February 15, 2014, from 12 Noon to 2 P.M., at Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 3477 Medina Road (corner of River Styx and Rt.18), Medina. Helen J. Sands, 87, of Medina, passed away Monday, February 10, 2014. She was born June 16, 1926 to Frank and Justine (nee Germek) Germack in Cleveland.

Helen was a member of UAW, having worked for 35 years at General Motors’ Fisher Body Plant. She will always be cherished by her family as a loving mother, as well as a great cook and homemaker.

Helen is survived by her beloved daughter, Patricia (Stuart) Neal of Medina; cherished sister, Mary Lou Throop of Geneva; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Leroy W. Sands; son, Jerry Sands; brother, Walter Germack, as well as her parents

A Memorial Mass will be held for Helen Friday, February 14, 2014, 10 A.M., at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 606 E. Washington St., Medina. Father John Lee will officiate. A private interment will take place at Whitehaven Memorial Park in Mayfield Village.

Marcella graduated from Westfield Center High School in 1942. She married Wilbur Blough on April 6, 1946. She worked for Westbrook Accountants and was a member of Norton Church of Christ. She enjoyed ceramics, fishing, crocheting, and playing board and card games.

Marcella will be deeply missed by children, Bonnie (Thomas) Hooser of Rittman, Barry (Deborah) Blough of Wooster, Linda (John) Majer of Wadsworth, and Karen King of Wadsworth; grandchildren, Troy, Tracie, Christopher, Tabitha, Kimberly, Debbie, Kathy, Scott, Brian, and Sara; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Marcella was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur; brothers, Pete, Donald, Jack, and Larry; and sisters, Peg, Dot, Mae, Edna, Ellie, and Ethel.

Friends may call Thursday, February 13, 2014, from 1 to 2 P.M., at Roberts Funeral Home-Hillcrest Chapel, Seville. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 P.M., at the funeral home, with Pastor Scarpino officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
