Bruce Jameson Mann

Mann_BruceBruce Jameson Mann, 77, passed away at his home Saturday, December 5, 2015, after a courageous battle with Myelofibrosis Leukemia.
To those who knew Bruce, he will be remembered with love and for his integrity, perseverance, resilient work ethic, his humility, love of learning, enjoyment of simple pleasures, his humor and his sense of adventure.
Bruce is survived by his wife and best friend, Janet (Beer) Mann; three children, Chris (Christine) Mann, Lauren (Byron) Kehr and Matthew (Itiele) Adams; brothers, Neal (Deborah-Edge) Mann, Paul (Lorraine) Mann; sister, Marita (Neil) Poulson; five grandchildren, Hunter and Parker Kehr, Macy Adams, Chase and McKenzie Mann; brothers-in-law, Albert Davis, David Beer, Richard (Maria) Beer and numerous nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Seville High School in 1956, obtained a BS degree in Mathematics from Ashland College in 1960 and a MS in Bio-Radiology and in Nuclear Engineering from the University of California-Berkeley.
Bruce had 50 years experience in Health Physics and Environmental Engineering with 30 years experience in nuclear industry projects. He served as a full time consultant from 1980 to 1997 for government and nuclear Industry organizations. During this period, he played a key role in establishing and managing support organizations for several large nuclear outage and decommissioning projects. He had considerable experience in decommissioning characterization and final status surveys. He was employed in Federal Agencies (U.S. Public Health Service and the U.S. EPA) in environmental radiological monitoring and evaluation of weapons tests at the Nevada Test Site and vicinity and environmental studies at uranium mines, mill sites and waste disposal sites. In 1979, Bruce was hired as a staff assistant with the investigation and preparation of the Presidents Commission’s report on the accident at Three Mile Island. That experience led to employment as a consultant to the U.S. Senate Committee in Environmental and Public Works investigation of the U.S. Nuclear Industry response to the Three Mile Island Accident. He went on to a staff consultant position to the National Academy of Sciences for a special study of the technical performance of geologic repositories of high-level radioactive waste.
Bruce was a certified health physicist and registered professional engineer in nuclear engineering. He worked at nuclear research facilities for three years as a health physicist and held reactor operators licenses at two research reactors. After 1989, he became a private consultant on a full time basis to the nuclear power industry and worked exclusively on nuclear facility cleanup and decommissioning projects.
Some of the project and facilities he worked at were: Robert A. Taft Sanitary Engineering Center, U.S. Public Health Service (Cincinnati), Senior Decommissioning Consultant – Trojan Nuclear Power Plant (Oregon), Senior Radiological Consultant – EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute), Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Station, Yankee Rowe Atomic Power Station, Project/QA Engineer- Ft. St. Vrain Nuclear Station (Colorado), Project Engineer – Long Island Power Authority, Shoreham Nuclear Power Station, Consultant – Brookhaven National Laboratory, Duane Arnold Nuclear Power Station, UC Berkeley Research Reactor Decommissioning, St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant (Florida), Health Physics Consultant – Fort Calhoun Nuclear Power Station, Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station (PA), ALARA Engineer-Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station, Zion and Dresden Power Plants, as well as work at Los Alamos and Sandia labs. He also assisted with U.S. EPA rulemaking for high-level radioactive waste disposal and studies to determine if DOE WIPP facility could meet the proposed EPA HLW standard. Bruce joined Commonwealth Edison in November 1997, as a program manager in their corporate decommissioning services organization. Bruce was working at Zion Power Plant when he retired in May 2014.
Over the years, Bruce participated in a number of studies of nuclear technology and authored or co-authored over 40 technical publications and presented papers at numerous symposia and technical meetings. He also performed audits and operational reviews at a number of nuclear facilities.
Bruce was a member of the Health Physics Society and the American Nuclear Society. Bruce and Janet shared a passion for travel and had many unique and wonderful adventures together. Their adventures took them to the tip of South America, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. While there, they helped a friend with her research on Dolphins and enjoyed an amazing cruise through the Beagle Channel. Other trips took them to China, the Caribbean and Mexico. Bruce trekked in Nepal, traveled to Australia with his son, Chris and embarked on a motorcycle trip to Alaska with family.
One of the more memorable trips was a Disney cruise with the kids and grandchildren. Bruce and Janet enjoyed mountain biking and biked in the Copper Canyon, Mexico, the Rocky Mountains and they did the grueling Des Moines Registry Annual Great Bicycle Ride across the state of Iowa (525 miles in seven days). In addition to travel, Bruce and Janet enjoyed working on many volunteer projects such as the Habitat for Humanity building project with Jimmy Carter.
Bruce and Janet have been married 26 years. They were fortunate to be able to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary last year on a two-week cruise to the Caribbean. Bruce had many interests. He was a voracious reader, enjoyed working around the house and was a talented craftsman.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Charlotte Mann; sister, Marcia Davis and nephews, Gregory Davis and Kenneth Mann.
Services will be at the Seville Presbyterian Church, Monday, December 14, 2015. Calling hours will be from 1 until 2:15 P.M., and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:30 P.M.

King_SherylSheryl Ann King, 47, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, December 9, 2015. Sherry was born December 14, 1967, in Dover, Delaware.
She was an educator and administrator with the Highland, Brunswick and Buckeye School Systems and most recently, adjunct professor at Ashland University. Sherry always put her family first and loved watching her children’s sporting events. Her passion was for gifted education and she enjoyed traveling- especially to beaches. Sherry enjoyed hosting parties and was always the life of the party. She was the best daughter, mother, wife, care giver and friend to all she met!
Sherry is survived by her beloved husband, Rick, to whom she was married 27 years; loving children, Adam R. (Elizabeth) King and Audrey E. King; dear parents, Kenneth and Elizabeth (Alm) Blackburn and devoted brother, Richard (Sara) Blackburn.
Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Monday, December 14, at St. Paul Episcopal Church, 317 E. Liberty St., Medina. The Reverend Dr. C. Eric Funston will officiate. Burial will follow at Henry Warstler Cemetery in Canton. The family will receive friends Sunday, December 13, from 2 until 5 P.M., at the Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina.

Awebree Francis Mielnik

Mielnik_AwbreeOn Saturday, December 5, 2015, God called Our Sweet Angel Awebree Francis Mielnik home to be with Him. Her sister, Caroline and her twin siblings welcomed her in to their arms and walked her into heaven. Awebree was born October 20, 2015 in Medina.
She will always be remembered for her heart of gold and her sweet smile. She was always happy. Awebree was truly adored by her family and friends.
She is the sweet precious daughter of Melysa Mielnik and Eric Buckingham; loving sister of John, Sarenidy, Ariana and Anastasia; dear granddaughter of Francis Mielnik, Paula Bryner, Lorraine Mielnik, Joesph Powell and Theresa Paulk. She is also the beloved niece and cousin to many. She will be truly missed.
Private family services will be held for Awebree.

Judith Summers

Judith B. Summers of Lodi, formally of Chatham Township, died Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at the Hospice of Medina County. Judith was born October 12, 1924 in Chatham Township, the only child of Don and Lillian (Beach) Williams. Except for her final 15 months, Judith lived her entire life in Chatham Township.
She is survived by her husband, Robert and daughters, Penelope (Will) Lutz of Stow and Constance (Don) Nielsen of Brunswick Hills. Also surviving are grandsons, Jason (Beth) Lutz, Chad Lutz, Colin Lutz, and Zachary (Natalie) Nielsen and three great-grandchildren, Pierce and Everett Lutz and Margaret Kay “Maggie” Nielsen. Surviving stepchildren are Rebecca (Dave) M’Ginnis and Steven (Idalia) Summers, both of Texas, Jonathan (Theresa) Summers of Rootstown, and Robert (Susan) Summers of South Carolina. There are 13 surviving step-grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Judith was preceded in death by her parents and Albert E. Noah, her first husband and father of her daughters. Albert died in 1980.
There will be no calling hours or Funeral Service. A Remembrance Service may be held at a later date, at the discretion of the family.

Thomas C. Croskey

Thomas C. Croskey, 91 of Lodi, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2015, at Hospice of Medina following a short illness. He was born May 19, 1924 in Lodi, to Thomas and Garnet (Still) Croskey.
He graduated from Lodi High School in 1942 and on June 25, 1944 he married Fern Baker in Lodi, she survives. Tom had farmed most of his life. He also did carpentry work for several local builders, well into his 80’s. He was a very avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of the Lodi First Congregational Church. Tom was a well- respected and dedicated member of the Masonic Order. He was a 60 year member and Past Master of Harrisville Masonic Lodge #137, serving as Master six times. He was Past Worthy Patron of the Lodi Order of Eastern Star where he served as Worthy Patron 17 times and was planning on an 18th. He was a 33rd Degree Mason, member of Scottish Rite, Knight York Cross of Honor and Wooster Commandery #48 Knights Templar.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Fern are sons, Larry (Carol) Croskey of Lodi, Mark (Nancy) Croskey of Ft. Pierce, Florida; grandchildren, Benjamin Croskey and Michele (James) Vithouse; great-granddaughter, Leandra Croskey.
He was preceded in death by his parents and twin infant sisters.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at 1 P.M., at the Parker Funeral Home, 210 Medina St., Lodi, (330) 948-1122. Pastor David Dake will officiate. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Homerville. Visitation will be Monday, December 14, 2015 from 5 until 9 P.M., at the funeral home, where Masonic services will be held at 8:45 P.M.

Rosaleen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend and will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She leaves behind her children, Kathleen (James) Waldrop, Victor (Teresa) Palzes, Michael (Kim) Palzes, Patricia Palzes, Eileen Woods and Rosaleen (Guy) Storch; her grandchildren, James, Joseph, Vanessa, Christopher, Michael, Kent, Samantha, Shannon and Jessica; her great-grandchildren, Emily and Hailey; her special friend, Pam; her brothers, James, William (Barbara) and Edward (Jean); her sisters, Ann Brown and Patricia Beutell and sisters-in-law, Erma, Tina and Pat.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Victor; son, Joseph; brothers, Jack, Thomas, Jerry; great-granddaughter, Riley and brothers-in-law, Woody Brown and Dick Beutell.

Krupla_MaryMary Krupla passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family in Somerset Kentucky, Tuesday, December 8, 2015. Mom was born October 12, 1934 in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, to Earl and Sarah Barner.
She was preceded in death by our Dad, David John Krupla, who died in 1971.
She is survived by her Children, Dale T. (Susan), Tish Roginski (Jim), Darwin (Laura), Doug (Karen) Duane (Lisa), and their families.
Cremation has taken place and we will be taking Mom to her favorite mountain in Pennsylvania.
Arrangements were handled by Southern Oak Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky.
Mom, we didn’t want to kiss you goodbye – we only wanted to kiss you goodnight.

Linda worked as a cashier for many years at Pick And Pay/Finast/Tops and was a member of Local 88 and the Red Hat Society. She loved swimming at Brunswick Rec Center, was an avid reader, but most of all loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Chuck; daughters, Faith (Chris) Gallow of Parma and Michelle Rundo of Columbus; grandchildren, Marshall and Morgan (Fiance Jeremy); brothers, Neslon (Elsie) of Yorkville, Ohio and Paul (Carol) of Colerain, Ohio; sisters, Nora (Bill) Miller of West Lafayette and Eva (Joe) Sempkowski of Glen Robbins, Ohio; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James, William, John, Richard and Robert and sister, Virginia Dean.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at the Waite and Son Funeral Homes, Brunswick Chapel, 3300 Center Road, Brunswick, 44212 from 11 A.M. until 1 P.M. with a Funeral Service to follow at 1 P.M.

Laura leaves behind her husband Bob, who cared for her with strong and loving arms throughout her illness; her loving father, Jim Lorig (Charlene); one and only brother, Dan Lorig; and her sisters and best friends, Marie Mayes (Steve), Denise Miglich (Mark), Kathleen Collins (Scott), Renee Higgins (Mark) and Amy Funfgeld (Mark); mother-in-law, JoAnne Trusnik; sister-in-law, Lynn; brothers-in-law, Tom (Sharon), Ken (Amy) and Dennis (Barb). She also leaves many nieces and nephews who loved and adored her like a mother; her work family, especially Dick Marcellino who was very important to her; and her spoiled dogs, Cracker and Jack.

Patsy was a bookkeeper for Squires, Sander & Dempsey in Cleveland for many years, but will be remembered most for being a very active member of Brunswick Church of the Nazarene and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving children, Kim Mackay and Eric Brown; grandchildren, Taylor, Jordan, Kendalyn, Alexandria, Jacob, Aaron Joshua, Dakota and Autumn; brothers, Arnold John, Jr.”Butch”, Gary and Tim and sister, Ellen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Anola and stepmother, Betty.

Georgia M. Crowder, 88, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2015. Georgia was born December 2, 1927 in Richmond, Virginia, to the late George and Dora (Vermillion) Rose.
She enjoyed singing, attending church services and playing Bingo at Life Care Center.
Georgia is survived by her daughters, Martha (Ray) Berger and Sandra Crowder; grandchildren, Neal Stacy, Brad Stacy, Arthur Goans, Carri Browder and Justin Berger; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry Rose and sisters, Mary Kate Short and Nancy Stacy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur and daughters, Anna Stacy and Alice Goans.
The family would like to thank the staff at Life Care Center of Medina for the loving care Georgia received while in their care.
Services will be held Thursday, December 17, at 11 A.M., at the Waite and Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 16, from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 P.M., at the funeral home.

Waltenberger_KathrynKathryn E. “Kay” (Porter) Waltenberger, age 76, of Homeworth, Ohio, passed away at 6:27 p.m., Friday, December 11, 2015, at Alliance Community Hospital. She was born April 18, 1939, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, to John and Eva (Lewis) Porter.
Kathryn was a 1957 graduate of Minerva High School and retired from Bonfert Glass Company. A devoted mother and grandmother, she loved working in her garden, reading, had a true gift for playing the piano and enjoyed riding her John Deere tractor.
Kathryn was an avid supporter and fan of the Marlington and Brunswick High School Band programs and was a true animal lover. She enjoyed caring for her cats and local wildlife.
Survivors include her children, Amy (Jay) Wardeska of Medina, Jennifer (Bob) Brahler of Alliance and William Waltenberger of Columbus; granddaughter, Anna Brahler and grandson, Jonathan Brahler.
Preceding Kathryn in death were her parents; husband of nearly 51 years, Wayne Waltenberger; an infant daughter, Laura Beth Waltenberger; brother, Jack Porter and sister, Becky Betz.
A Memorial Service for both ‘Bucky’ and ‘Kay’ will be held at 1 P.M., Saturday, December 19, 2015, at Cassaday- Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, 75 S. Union Ave., Alliance, with Sue DeHoff officiating. Friends may call from 11 A.M., Saturday until the time of the Service.

Cole_HelenHelen T. Cole, 96, of Seville, died Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Pearlview Rehab & Wellness Center in Brunswick. Helen was born January 10, 1919 in Cleveland, to Louis and Veronica (Cziffer) Hofstetter.
She worked at Westfield Insurance Company in the mailroom for over 20 years. Helen was a member of Chippewa Church At The Lake United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending her time outdoors, especially tending to her flower garden. Helen was an avid nature and animal lover.
Helen will be deeply missed by her children, Sandy (Joe) Sbrocco of Brecksville, Thomas (Marilyn) Cole of Medina and Barb (Ken Miksch) Dodrill of Seville; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Albert (Melinda) Hofstetter of Dayton; sisters, Christine (Paul) Culley of Avon Lake, Rosemary Fahler of Medina, Aggie Rice of Lodi and Janet Nemecek of Medina.
Helen was preceded in death by her brother, Louis Hofstetter and sisters, Marie Tien, Elizabeth Koeth and Viola Ridgeway.

Nancy K. Riffle

Nancy K. Riffle, 77, passed away Monday, December 14, 2015 in Medina. Nancy was born February 24, 1938, in Cleveland, to the late William and Hilda (Gottschling) Thompson.
She retired from a supervisor position at the State Welfare Department in Cuyahoga County. Nancy loved to play the piano and took delight in her music. She enjoyed playing Bingo and traveling to Florida. But most of all, she loved her furry companion, Mitzi.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 55 years, Alva “Al”, who worked at the GM Parma plant; nephews, Matthew and William Thompson; two great-nieces and brother, William (Nancy) Thompson.
Family will receive friends Thursday, December 17, 2015 from 6 to 8 P.M., at the Waite and Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. Burial will take place Friday, December 18, 2015 at 11 A.M., at Sunset Memorial Park, 6265 Columbia Rd, North Olmsted (please meet at cemetery front gate).

Ruhrkraut_ElsieElsie M. Ruhrkraut, 90, of Medina, passed onto her heavenly home on Tuesday, December 15, 2015. Elsie was born April 1, 1925 in Osnabruck, Germany to the late Carl and Anna (nee Jurgenvathauer) Fuerhoff. She resided in Brunswick for many years prior to moving to Medina.
Elsie met her late husband, Roland at their Senior Class play and they were members of the Medina Masquers for many years.
Elsie was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Valley City, where she taught Sunday school, was past president of the Ladies Aid; head of the Prayer Chain and coordinated the funeral dinners at St. Paul’s for many years. Elsie volunteered 44 years through Red Cross at Medina Hospital.
Elsie will be greatly missed by her children, Cindy and Chris, both of Medina and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
There will be a visitation from 3 until 4 P.M., Thursday, December 17, 2015, at St.Paul Lutheran Church, 1377 Lester Road, Valley City. with the Funeral Service at 4 P.M. The Reverend Philip Zielinski will officiate. Burial will be at St. Paul Cemetery, Valley City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Church or to Hospice of Medina County.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Bauer Funeral Home, Valley City.

Moore_DarleneDarlene A. Moore, 75, of Lodi, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2015, at Hospice of Medina County. She was born March 27, 1940 in Lodi, to Ernest and Dorothy (Allis) Harris. She graduated from Lodi High School in 1958 and started working as a Lab and X-Ray Technician in the Radiology Department at Medina Community Hospital. She later worked for Lodi Medical Group for 35 years, as well as for Lodi Community Hospital. She was a member of the Medina County and Ohio State Genealogical Societies and enjoyed researching her family and others. She was a member of the Lodi American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed gardening in her spare time.
Surviving are daughter, Amy Jo Moore of Honolulu, Hawaii; step daughter, Gini Moore of Cleveland; grandchildren, Jeff Leighliter, Serenity Craig; nieces and nephews, Jody (Ed) Buchanan, Mike (Sherry) Frazier, Matthew Harris and longtime friend, Ruthann Gromley
She was preceded in death by her husband, William (Pete) Moore; brother, Roy Harris and niece, Debbie Frazier.
Funeral Service will be held Thursday, December 17, 2015, at 7 P.M., at the Parker Funeral Home, 210 Medina St., Lodi (330)948-1122. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service (6-7 P.M.) at the funeral home.

Forbes_Mary AnnMary Ann Forbes (nee Zigman), 80, of Brunswick, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2015. She was born December 6, 1935 in Cleveland, to Frank and Mary Rose (nee Kasic) Zigman.
Mary Ann was an officer in the organization, Action for Brunswick, a citizens group incorporated for the purpose of converting the primarily farm based community, from a township to a village and eventually to a thriving city.
In 1963, Mary Ann was elected to Brunswick City Council (Brunwick’s first woman Councilman). She became Chairman of the Finance Commitee, Member of Fire and Health Commitee, Co-Chairman of Citizens for Water Commitee, which brought City water to Brunswick from Cleveland in 1965. Mary Ann was also active in the toll-free telephone service to Cleveland campaign. In 1965 she was elected to the office of City Treasurer. In 1999, Mary Ann retired as a Vice President of Mellon Financial after 41 years in the commercial real estate field. St. Ambrose Catholic Church was like a second home to Mary Ann, where she was Eucharistic Minister, an Assistant Sacristan, Member of the Women’s Guild, as well as a Cantor for 20 years. Mary Ann was also a volunteer for many years at Pearlview Nursing Center. Mary Ann was a survivor of the 1944 East Ohio Gas Company explosion in Cleveland, which claimed over 160 lives, including those of her mother, Mary Rose, sister Patricia, and Aunt, Josephine Kasic.
She will be dearly missed by her loving daughter, Susanne (John) Gerres; siblings, Thomas Zigman, Karen (Robert) Malec; brother-in-law, William Karnes; grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer (David) Gerres and Jeffrey Gerres.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 41 years, Curtis and sisters, Norene Karnes and Patricia Zigman, as well as step-mother, Rose P. Zigman (nee Sako).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 19, 2015, at 11 A.M., at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 929 Pearl Rd, Brunswick, OH 44212. There will be a visitation one hour prior to Mass at 10 A.M. (Please meet at church). Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Cleveland.

Manchak_MatthewMatthew A. Manchak, 55, passed away at home and peacefully, surrounded by his loving family Wednesday, December 16, 2015. Matt was born November 10, 1960 in Elyria, to the late Stephen and Annamae (Popchock) Manchak.
He worked for 35 years as a maintenance supervisor at Carlisle and most recently at McJack Candy. Matt liked going to Summit Raceway Park and spent hours working on muscle cars. He was an avid NASCAR fan. In his youth, he worked as an electrician with his father at Chippewa Lake Park. Matt’s grandchildren were his greatest joy and they meant the world to him. Matt’s family would like to thank Hospice of Medina Co. for the compassionate care given to him at his home.
He is survived by his wife, Renee (Villoni) whom he’s been together with for 20 years; children, Michael (Chelsea) Manchak, Kelli (Jeremy) Stiener, Jessica Maynard and Jamie Maynard; grandchildren, Brenden, Breanna, MacKenzie and Brokk; brother, Stephen (Allison) Manchak; sisters, Deborah (Greg) Lorenzen, Rebecca (Les) McClanning, Tamara Manchak and Suzanna (James) Schneider; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service for Matt will be held Monday, December 21, 2015, at 1 P.M., at the Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. Fr. Nicholas Gobora will officiate. Burial will follow at Mound Hill Cemetery in Seville. Family will receive friends Sunday, December 20, 2015 from 2 until 6 P.M., at the funeral home.
