Richard G. Neptune

Neptune_RichardGRichard George Neptune, 65, of Bethel, Connecticut, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, May 13, 2015, after a courageous 10½ month battle with cancer. He was born March 15, 1950, in Medina, to Jonathan Earl and Jeanette Neptune. He was the beloved husband of Debra A. Miley, whom he married November 15, 1975.

Rich graduated from Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, in 1972 and Pace University in New York, New York, with an MBA in 1978 and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Business in 1982. He subsequently worked many years in finance and leasing before retiring in 2009. He loved his family dearly and adored spending time with his wife and daughter. Rich enjoyed spending summers at his home on Cape Cod and sailing and going to the beach with his family. He was passionate about golf and running and ran several marathons beginning in 2011, including the Walt Disney World Marathon and the Boston Marathon.

He is loved and deeply missed by his friends and family, especially his daughter and his wife, Debbie, whom he was married to for 39 years. In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by a daughter, Lindsay Neptune of Greenwich, Connecticut; a brother, David (Julie) Neptune of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; his father-in-law, John Miley of Yorktown Heights, New York; a sister-in-law, Virginia (John) Dwyer of New Hudson, Michigan and several nieces and nephews.

Debbie and Lindsay would like to thank everyone at MSKCC and RHHC for the excellent and compassionate care and support they provided.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Church, Bethel, Monday, May 18, at 10 A.M. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, New York at 1 P.M., on Monday. The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, Sunday, May 17, from 4:30 until 8:30 P.M.

Meager_EvaEva Meager, 92, a life-long resident of Seville, died Wednesday, May 13, 2015. Eva was born August 11, 1922 in Seville to the late Sylvester and Hazel Gordon. Eva was one of four children.

She graduated from Seville High School as the school Valedictorian. She retired from GTE after 40 years of service. She loved her family dearly. She especially loved spending time with her loving daughter, Sherry Armstrong and great-granddaughter, Bryanna.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Armstrong (Dick) of Seville; grandson, Todd (Stacey) Armstrong of Seville and beloved great-granddaughter, Bryanna.

She was united in death with her husband, Donald Meager; sisters, Vera Fettler, Gladys Pease; brother, Homer Gordon and special friend, Art Shannon.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 17, 2015 from 5 until 8 P.M., at Armstrong Funeral Home, 25 Pleasant St., Seville, where funeral services will be Monday, May 18, 2015, at 11 A.M. Burial will be at Mound Hill Cemetery.

AA - don't move -OBIT FLAGRuby_MichaelMichael Arthur Ruby, 96, of Brunswick, passed away Friday, May 15, 2015. He was born June 12, 1918 in Youngstown, to the late John and Anna (nee Grejtek) Ruby.

Michael proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a lifelong member of the Brunswick V.F.W. Post 9520 and the Brunswick American Legion Post 234. Michael worked as a building inspector for Medina County and a zoning inspector for York Township and Brunswick Hills Township. He was an avid reader of western and mystery novels.

Michael will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 69 years, Jeanette; son, Terry; daughter, Lorri (Daniel) Huston; grandchildren, Jim, Michael, Chris, Michelle and 10 great- grandchildren. He was a great friend to many and will be deeply missed by all.

Michael was preceded in death by his brother, John.

Friends may join the family for visitation Sunday, May 17, 2015 from 4 to 8 P.M., at Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 1642 Pearl Rd, Brunswick, OH 44212. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, May 18, 2015, at 10 A.M., at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 929 Pearl Rd, Brunswick, OH 44212. Father Bob Stec to officiate. Please meet at church. Frank A. Petrovich

Petrovich_FrankFrank A. Petrovich, 65, a resident of Spencer, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was born the eldest of four on December 10, 1949, to Frank and Helen Petrovich in Cleveland.

He will be dearly missed by his son, Jerrod (Marci) Petrovich; grandchildren, Hayden and Shayne; siblings, Steve (Roger Hahn) Petrovich, Bob (Debbie) Petrovich, Nancy Daso (Mike), nephews and niece, Bobby, Dolly and Tyler; uncle, Wes Shirey and many, many other family and friends.

Frank retired as a corrections officer from Grafton Correctional Institution. He enjoyed spending time with his family, helping others and cooking. He dearly loved his two cats Lucky and KitKat. Frank was a blessing to everyone who had the opportunity to have crossed paths with him, always making others needs a priority over his own. He will be a greatly missed, genuinely good hearted man.

At Frank’s request, there will be no funeral services.

Gary is survived by his two sons, Ethan, Tyler and their mother, Ellen Lucas-Zahnke; brothers, Zank (Vicki) Zahnke and John (Suzy) Zahnke; sisters, Robin (Bruce) Kinkelaar, Terry Hicks and Linda (Troy) Jones; he leaves behind many nieces, nephews, as well as other countless special family members and friends.

Durocher_RoderickRoderick G. Durocher, 73, of Strongsville, passed away, surrounded by his family on Thursday, May 14, 2015. He was born to the late Roderick and Virginia (nee Cooley) Durocher on April 7, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois.

Roderick graduated in 1960 from Parma High School. He attended GMI Institute (now known as Kettering University) in Flint, Michigan and graduated in 1965 with a Mechanical Engineering Degree. He worked for General Motors Corp. for 52 years and retired in 2013. He loved spending time with his family and friends, golfing and watching the Indians, Browns, Cavs and Buckeyes play. He also loved gardening and going to his grandchildrens sporting events.

Roderick is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Karen; his loving children, Kevin (Cindy) Durocher, Cheryl (Mike) Bricker, Rebecca (Wayne) Tope, Debra Ross, Denise Berceau, Darlene (Tony) Deblase, David Gaking (Mitch Sandlin), and Darrin Gaking; his grandchildren, Ashley, Mandie, Bryan, Catheryne, Joshua, Andrew, William, Michael, Jaret, Danielle, Joseph, Phillip, Domenic, Douglass and Diana; six great-grandchildren; his brother, Jeffery (Marie) Durocher; brother-in-law, Phillip Whitney; sister-in-law, Sandra (Jim) McDermott and many extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation on Tuesday, May 19, from 7 until 9 P.M., at Waite and Son Funeral Home, 3300 Center Rd. Brunswick. A memorial service, in Roderick’s honor, will be held Wednesday, May 20 at 11 A.M., at the funeral home. A private inurnment will follow at Hope Memorial Gardens in Hinckley.

He was the beloved husband of Linda, for 44 years; devoted father of Thomas Kiousis, III (Elizabeth), Patricia Stout (O. Gerald) and Timothy Slama; loving grandfather of Collin, Connor, Meredith and Brendan; brother of Sheila Keaton (William), James (Eileen), Jake (deceased) (Sam) and Rita Marie.

Tom had been a stagehand for more than 50 years, much of that time serving as the International Representative for the IATSE. He also served as the executive director of the Red Cross for Mahoning County for 10 years. He served the County Welfare Department, Legal Aid and the Federation of Labor. He was on the Board of Trustees of the Cleveland Public Library for eight years, before he was elected its president.

Funeral Service will be Wednesday, May 20, at 4 P.M., in the McGorray-Hanna Funeral Home of Westlake, 25620 Center Ridge Rd. (West of Columbia). Friends may call in the funeral home from 1 until 4 P.M.

Janet Marie Bessler

Bessler_JanetJanet Marie Bessler, 80, of Medina, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2015, with her family at her side, in Cleveland. Jan was born March 13, 1935, in Wadsworth, to Wellington and Verna (Saal) Hilty.

She graduated from Liverpool High School in 1953 where she was a member of the high school marching band and played piano. She married William Bessler in 1982 and resided in Medina. She was employed at the Medina County Health Department for over 15 years and retired in 1995. Jan had a passion for horses which she shared with her children and close friends, as well as the outdoors which she shared with her husband. She also enjoyed clogging and bike riding. She had a strong love for others and devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, including her mother-in-law and husband.

She is survived by her husband, William Bessler; children, Becky Martin of Missouri and David Standen of Colorado; stepchildren, Kathy Ullom and Greg Bessler; stepgrandchildren, Nick Duvoisin and Brandy Ullom; sister, Donna Jean Ulmer and many other important extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Joanne Hilty and brother, Donovan Hilty.

Memorial services for Jan will be held Monday, May 18, 2015, at 11 A.M., at Murray’s Funeral Home in Creston, Ohio where friends will be received one hour prior to services.

Jennie “Jean” Barnes

Jennie “Jean” Barnes, 80, a longtime Berea resident, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at Abbewood in Elyria, where she had resided for the past two years. Born September 7, 1934 in Toledo, Jean was the younger, by 15 minutes, of twins born to Albert and Margaret (Boone) Barnes.

 

Jean attended Toledo Public Schools and was a 1952 graduate of Whitmer High School. Jean received a BS in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from Bowling Green State University in 1956, an MS in Education from Kent State University in 1962 and a BS in History from Akron and Toledo Universities in 1969. Jean spent 34 years as a teacher, beginning in the Clyde, Ohio, Public Schools, where she taught Health, Physical Education, Science and Driver’s Ed. She spent her last 31 years as an educator in the Strongsville City School District, where she taught Health, Physical Education and History and in 1981-82 was named a Martha Holden Jennings Scholar. Following her retirement in 1990, Jean became involved in genealogy and commercially published three family histories, which took her to the Isle of Man on two occasions. Jean served two terms as President of the Southwest Cuyahoga Genealogical Society and was also the Cleveland District Trustee of the Ohio Genealogical Society Board from 1995-2009. Other hobbies included quilting, crocheting, cross stitching, woodworking and officiating basketball and volleyball.

 

Jean is survived by many cousins, two nephews and their wives and children and her very dear friend, Loretta Vargo of Elyria, who cared for Jean for the past several years.

 

Friends may call at Baker-Osinski-Kensinger Funeral Home, 206 Front St., Berea, Sunday, May 17, 2015, from 3 to 6 P.M. A private burial will be held at Grandview Cemetery, Strasburgh, Ohio.

Burns_ElmerElmer G. Burns, 73, of Brunswick, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on Saturday, May 16, 2015. He was born May 6, 1942 in Cleveland.

Elmer worked for the Cleveland Animal Protective League in the late ’70s as a truck mechanic, followed by working for the Cuyahoga County Kennels from which he retired. He will be remembered most for the love he had for his family, extended family and many friends and will be greatly missed.

He was the beloved husband of 37 years to Mary Lou (nee Kmiecik); loving father of Robert (Katie), Jonathan (Robin Wear), Christopher and Julie; cherished grandfather of Matthew and Jacob; dearest nephew of Jimmy Burns; brother of Mildred Srebeala, Kathy (David) Fordham; brother-in-law to Mary Venable; uncle, great-uncle and great-great-uncle to many and special “Buddy” and dear friend of the family, Dr. Ali Shaikh, who he thought the world of and was forever grateful to.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mildred (nee Schwartz) Burns; brothers, James, Thomas and his wife, Sandy.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 20, from 3 until 8 P.M., at Waite and Son Funeral Home, 3300 Center Rd., Brunswick. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday, May 21, at 10 A.M., at Our Lady of Grace Church, 1088 Ridge Rd., Hinckley. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Valley City.

Barbara Lynn (Vana) Wisniewski

Barbara Lynn (Vana) Wisniewski was born June 24, 1944 in Cleveland, to Joseph Vana and Annette Szewczuk. She passed peacefully at Hospice of Medina County, Wednesday, May 13, 2015, surrounded by her family, the scent of her favorite lilacs and the sound of hymns playing.

Barbara was doted on by her grandmother and aunt, being showered with ballet lessons, trips to the theater and lavish birthday parties and love. She attended Lakewood High School and later moved to Medina where she spent her life raising her children and being a homemaker. She loved to spend her time entertaining and enjoying a meal with friends and family, making every holiday or event memorable, enjoyable and eventful. Her hobbies included gardening and searching for the never-ending “bargain” while visiting thrift stores and garage sales. She was known to her grandchildren as Grandma “Bee” and spent time coloring, making creative snacks and blowing bubbles with them. She had a deep faith and was very candid when sharing it with others. She was outspoken, loving and always thinking of others. She devoted the last 10 years of her life to taking care of her injured, adult son. Barbara attended Harvest Time Church in Brunswick and enjoyed church potlucks and was always happy to make a little something to share.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Vana; mother, Annette Blass; stepfather, Richard Blass and grandson, Dylan Wisniewski.

Barbara is survived by her children, Michelle (Dan) Werner, Kenneth Wisniewski, Victoria (Greg) Garber-Ellis and Craig (Jean) Wisniewski; grandchildren, Cortney, Emma, Sophia, Scarlett and Dashiell; loving father to her four children, Kenny Wisniewski; brother, Brett Blass and her faithful rescued companion, Bella.

Visiting hours are 3 P.M., memorial service at 4 P.M., Friday, May 22, 2015, at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina, 44256.

Rose_IsabellIsabell Ruth Rose, 83, formerly of Chatham and Lodi, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Brookdale of Medina, Medina. She was born in Cleveland, on September 20, 1931, to Robert and Nellie (Cook) Goldie. She was raised in Cleveland and later married Jack Rose, Jr. on February 21, 1948.

Isabell had been employed by the Cloverleaf School District as a cook in the Chatham and Lafayette Schools. She was a member of Black River Church of the Brethren, Chatham Fire Dept. Auxiliary and Chatham School PTA. She enjoyed playing bingo and also the Sunshine State, where she resided in Largo, Florida for a number of years.

Surviving is her daughter, Connie (Bill) Emerson of Medina; sons, Robert (Bub) and wife, Linda Rose of Chatham, Arlan (Sam) Rose of Lodi; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and her sister, Martha.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack in 1971; daughter, Yvonne Schiffer; granddaughter, Jennifer Puie; seven siblings and Bob Bachtel, her longtime companion for 33 years.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Brookdale and Crossroads Hospice for their care of Isabell.

Graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 10 A.M., at the Black River Church of the Brethren Cemetery, 10322 Old Mill Rd., Chatham. Pastor Christopher Kosman will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 19, 2015 from 4 to 7 P.M., at the Parker & Son Funeral Home, 210 Medina St., Lodi, (330) 948-1122.

Samuel G. “Mike” Wagner, Jr.

Wagner_SamuelSamuel G. Wagner, Jr. “Mike”, 68, of Medina, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 17, 1947 to the late Samuel G. Wagner and Elizabeth O. (O’Neill) Wagner.

In July 2012, Sam retired after 35 years from a career in Sales. He loved gardening and could always be found in his yard meticulously tinkering with his landscape and chatting with neighbors. Sam greatly enjoyed traveling abroad with his wife, Gail but he especially loved spending time in Nantucket and Aruba with his family and friends. He faithfully studied scripture and was passionate about photography. Most of all he adored spending time with his grandchildren.

Sam is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years Gail; loving children, Casey (John) Haverluck and Benjamin R. (Megan) Wagner; dear grandchildren, Kelsey and Greyson Haverluck and Lillian and Jenna Wagner; siblings, Ann Miller, Robert (Eileen O’Shea) Wagner, Steven (Linda) Wagner, Mark (Tamara) Wagner, and Thomas (Lisa) Wagner.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, May 22, 2015, at 11 A.M., at St. Ambrose Church, 929 Pearl Rd, Brunswick. Family will receive friends Thursday, May 21, 2015 from 4 until 8 P.M., at Waite and Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St, Medina and then Friday from 10 A.M. until time of mass at 11 A.M., at the Church. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hudson.

Riddleburgh_IreneIrene C. Riddleburgh, 84, of Westfield Center, passed away Monday, May 18, 2015, with her family by her side. She was born November 28, 1930 in Livingston, New York, to the late Peter and Stella Kosmaczewski.

Irene graduated from Albany Business College and was an executive secretary for Honeywell in Albany, New York. She enjoyed many years of volunteering with the Medina Township Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary, Alternative Paths, Westfield Junior PGA and the Westfield Women’s Club. She enjoyed playing golf, gardening and playing cards. Irene also enjoyed cheering on the Cavs, Indians and Browns. She cherished her time with her family and friends.

Irene is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Marc Houk; cherished grandchildren, Sarah Carmon and Von Houk and her dear sister, Jennie Chuckta.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Riddleburgh and her sisters, Ida Powanda, Jeanette Secor and Julia Kelly.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 A.M., Thursday, May 21, 2015, at Holy Martyrs Catholic Church, 3100 S. Weymouth Rd., Medina. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 A.M., Thursday, before Mass at the church. Burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful, compassionate staff who cared for Irene at Medina Hospital, The Avenue of Medina, and Hospice of Medina County.

AA - don't move -OBIT FLAGDouglas Petty, 88, of Medina, passed away Friday, May 15, 2015, surrounded by his family. He was born March 17, 1927, in Ida, Louisiana, to the late Crit and Gypsy Bell (Williams) Petty.

Douglas retired as a Master Gunnery Sergeant from the U.S. Marine Corps, serving 23 devoted and loyal years and in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He later worked for Bennett Lumber in Medina for another 20 years. The Marine Corps and his family were his life.

Douglas is survived by his loving children, Robert Petty, James Petty and Beth (Jeffrey) Olson; his beloved grandchildren, Charles “Bill” (Joy) Anderson and Krystal Anderson; dear great-grandchildren, Charles “Tre” and Thomas “TW” Anderson and his sister, Damaris Boston.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Phyllis in 2006; brothers, Joe, Crit, Jr., Frank and Merwin and his sisters, Myrtle and Ingles.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 28, from 6 until 8 P.M. and Friday, May 29, from 1:30 until 2 P.M., at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will immediately follow the visitation on Friday and will be held at 2:30 P.M., at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.

Eugenia E. Fisher

Eugenia E. Fisher, 92, of Medina, passed away Friday, May 15, 2015 at Hospice of Medina. Eugenia was born July 18, 1922 in Cleveland, to Harry and Dorothy (nee Shattuck) Ellis.

Her early experiences on the family farm in Hambden Township led to a lifelong interest in animals. She moved to Berea as a child and worked at C.S. Johns Co. Jewelers during high school and college. She attended Baldwin Wallace College.

In the early 1950s, she took up residence at Parker’s Ranch in North Olmsted, where she assisted Mrs. Adele Von Ohl Parker with ranch management. She trained and showed saddlebred and Arabian horses. In 1966, she relocated to Medina, where she and Charles Fisher, who later became her husband, raised thoroughbred horses. They raced successfully at Thistledown Race Track for many years. They were known for their ability to rehabilitate and maintain horses that had not yet lived up to their potential, and were well-respected in the northern Ohio racing world.

Eugenia was a mentor to many people of all ages. Her wisdom and generosity will live on through them. She will be missed.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and John Vannorsdall and also by nieces, Leslie Vannorsdall of Cleveland and Joan Vannorsdall of Clifton Forge, Virginia and nephew, Chris Vannorsdall of Medina. She was great-aunt to Matt, Olivia and Jordan Schroeder.

Celebration of life gathering will be held Friday, May 22, 2015 from 4 P.M., until time of service at 5 P.M., at the Bauer Funeral Home, 2089 Columbia Rd, Valley City. A reception will follow at Fisher Farm, 7261 Wolff Rd, Medina.

McMillen_Lisa AnneLisa Anne McMillen, 32, of Arlington, Virginia died peacefully in her sleep Friday, May 15, 2015, in her home, surrounded by her family. Lisa fought a courageous battle against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Born May 13, 1983, Lisa was the wife of Sean P. Galvin and daughter of Angela McMillen Ayres of Arlington, Virginia and John T. McMillen of Medina.

Lisa graduated from Our Lady of the Elms High School in Akron in 2001. In 2005, she graduated from the College of Wooster, where she majored in business economics and political science and was a member of the Delta Theta Psi sorority. She earned a Master’s Degree from the John Glenn School of Public Affairs – The Ohio State University.

Lisa retired from the U.S. Government Accountability Office in Washington D.C. in April, 2015, after a seven year career as a senior defense analyst, which brought her around the world to the Middle East and Europe. She was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan four times for extended periods in the service of her country.

Lisa was a wonderful cook who enjoyed volunteering with Yellow Ribbon Fund, reading and raising awareness for ALS. Prior to the onset of ALS, Lisa was an avid runner and played kickball.

In addition to her husband and parents, Lisa is survived by her twin sister, Kathryn (Dan Hlavin); her brothers, Steven and Scott; her step-parents, Linda McMillen and Whit Ayers; her step-sister, Hayley Anderson; mother-in-law, Patricia Galvin (Frank) and brothers-in-law, Brian (Erika) and Kyle (Pattie Grant) and nephews, Jack and Henry.

A Celebration of Lisa’s life will be held Saturday, June 20, 2015, at the Fort Myer Officers’ Club, 214 Jackson Ave., Fort Myer, Virginia. Since this is a military base, guests must be registered to attend. Condolences will begin at 2 P.M. and the service will begin at 3 P.M., with a reception afterwards.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one of the following organizations: ALS Association (be sure to mark it for research) or the ALS Virginia Chapter, which donated technology and medical equipment enabling Lisa to have a better quality of life.
