Thomas Edison Leatherman

Leatherman_ThomasAA - don't move -OBIT FLAGThomas Edison Leatherman of Lodi, went home to the Lord Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at his daughter’s home, after a long battle with MS and cancer. A lifelong resident of Lodi, he was born at the Lodi Community Hospital July 29, 1929, to Clayton and Nellie Kean Leatherman.

He graduated from Lodi High School in 1948 and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of Sergeant. While he was stationed in California, he met and married his wife of 61 years, Barbara Sperry.

Tom was a co-owner of Leatherman Hardware until his retirement. Tom was a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints, Lodi American Legion Post #1523 and the Harrisville Masonic Lodge #137 F&AM. He enjoyed fishing trips to the family cabin in Canada and sporting events. He was very much involved with his loving family and took great interest in the community of Lodi. He was respected by everyone who knew him.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara Sperry Leatherman; son, William (Erin) of Wadsworth; daughters, Susan Meyers (John) of Sullivan and Jane Leatherman of Lodi; sister, Margaret Hershberger (Pete) of Lodi; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Judd, Robert, Joseph and sister, Nona Jean Houston.

The family also wishes to thank Patricia Yuhas for her devotion and care of Tom during his last days.

A Celebration of his Life will be held at the Lodi American Legion Post, 120 Bank St., Lodi, Saturday, May 9, 2015 from 2 to 7 P.M. Inurnment will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish, may make donations to the Hospice of Medina County, the American Cancer Society, or the MS Society.

Virzi_FrankAA - don't move -OBIT FLAGFrank S. Virzi, Sr., 85, entered into rest Tuesday, May 5, 2015. Frank was born in Cleveland, on June 22, 1929 to the late Nicolo and Rosina Virzi.

He honorably served in the U.S. Army and retired from Mr. Gasket.

Frank is survived by his children, Karoleen Ballish (Chuck), Frank S. Virzi, Jr. (Carolyn) and Rosann Hrudka (Tom); 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosemary and his siblings, Joseph Virzi, Theresa Kollie and Margaret Hauser.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Francis Xavier Church, 606 E. Washington St., Medina, Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 11 A.M. Family will receive friends Wednesday from 9 to 10:30 A.M. at Waite and Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. Burial with Military Honors will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.

Kuenzer_KenKenneth R. Kuenzer, 49, died unexpectedly Saturday, May 2, 2015.

He was the beloved son of Karl and Karen Kuenzer; cherished brother of Karoline Krailo (Raymond Romito), late Keith Kuenzer (Toni), Karl Kuenzer, III (Elizabeth) and Kevin Kuenzer (Trisha); loving uncle to seven nephews and nieces.

Kenny was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and water sports. He will be remembered for his kind and generous soul and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In his final act of generosity, his wish to be an organ donor will enhance the lives of more than 125 people.

A Celebration of Kenny’s Life will take place Tuesday, May 12, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1605 Center Road, Hinckley. The family invites you to join them as they receive guests starting at 5 P.M. Memorial Service will be at 6 P.M., followed by dinner.

AA - don't move -OBIT FLAGJames “Jim” Crum, 82, of Mayfield Heights, passed peacefully away Tuesday, May 5, 2015.

The youngest child of Frank and Grace (Auble) Crum, Jim was born February 10, 1933, in Lodi. He graduated from Lodi High School with the Class of 1951.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He returned and received his degree at Miami University of Ohio. He moved to Cleveland after completion of his education and was living there at the time of his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister.

He is survived by his brother, Richard (Janis) of Williamston, Michigan; one niece, Lynette (Chris) Copping of Rockford, Michigan; two nephews, John Crum of Williamston and Don (Sue) Crum of Oakland, California.

Funeral service will be held Monday, May 11, 2015, at 11 A.M., at the Parker & Son Funeral Home, 210 Medina St., Lodi. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lodi. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.

James C. Phillips

Phillips JamesJames C. Phillips, 74, and a resident of Homerville, passed away peacefully Friday, May 8, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loved ones having fought a long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born December 5, 1940, in Amherst.

James grew up in Amherst and worked at the Lorain Ford Assembly Plant retiring in 1999. Upon his retirement, he went on to work for Spencer Township. He was an amazing craftsman working with wood and building his home in Homerville. He was an avid golfer in his younger years and still kept up with that love by watching the professionals play. He was also an avid Black River Pirate, Cleveland, and Ohio States sports fan.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 53 years, Wanda F. Phillips (nee Jones); daughter, Janet of Homerville; son and daughter-in-law, James and Deborah of Homerville; granddaughter, Jade and grandson, Austin both of Homerville; grandson, Samuel McClenahan of Billings, Montana; his trusty side kick “Red”; his sisters, Helen Cremans of Lorain, Dorothy West of Vermilion; his brothers, Richard (Peggy) of Oberlin, Daniel (Donna) of S. Amherst; Jerry (Mabel) of S. Amherst, David (Linda) of Oberlin and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Gertrude Phillips (nee Weisinger); and his brothers, Paul, Raymond, Robert, William, and Donald.

Friends may call Monday, May 11, 2015 from 5 until 8 P.M., at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 12, at 11 A.M., from the funeral home. Burial will follow at New Russia Township Cemetery, 12528 Oberlin Rd., New Russia Township.

Martha L. Naftzger

Martha L. Naftzger, 87, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015 in Medina. Martha was born July 8, 1927 in New Martinsville, West Virginia, to the late Alma (Jenny) Miller.

She was an underwriter for Westfield Insurance Company for 25+ years and also worked at Friction Products for 10 years. Martha was a faithful member of Medina United Methodist Church for 60+ years and was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Pythian Sisters.

Martha is survived by her son, Ken (Susan Santoro) Naftzger; daughter, Marilyn Beers; grandchildren, Monica (Dan) Orient, Jeff (Nicole) Beers, Brian Naftzger, Lisa (Tyler) Maynard, Angela (Robert) Duran and Ron Santoro; great-grandchildren, James, Jenna, Madeline, Dustin, Joscalyn, Emilia and Myles.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marlyn Naftzger and her sister, Betty Komjati.

Services will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 11 A.M., in the Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. The Reverend James Patterson and Susan Hume will officiate. Burial will follow at York Township Cemetery. Family will receive friends Monday, May 11, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M., in the funeral home.

Felicia Faith Bohn (nee Alyward), 73, of Wadsworth, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2015. She was born September 6, 1941 in Akron, to the late John and Faith Alyward.

Mrs. Bohn was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Medina and was retired from Akron General Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Ann and brother, Joseph.

Felicia is survived by her husband, John; children, Maria (Michael) Mogg, Andrew, and Rebecca (Tom) Rider; grandchildren, Madeline and Miranda Mogg and Matthew Rider. She is also survived by her sisters, Faith Brouse and Rebecca Crossland and brothers, John, Michael and Hugh Alyward.

A memorial service will be held 11 A.M., Monday May 11, 2015, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 400 N. Broadway, Medina, OH 44256. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 10 to 11 A.M.

Belles_AliceAlice Belles, 67, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015, in Lodi, with her family at her side after her battle with cancer. She was born March 5, 1948 in Grethel, Kentucky, to the late Miles and Ethel (Evans) Williams.

Alice enjoyed traveling with her friend, Linda Springston, flowers and gardening. She loved going to yard sales and flea markets. She also served as an officer for the Medina Eagles.

Alice is survived by her children, Shawn (Jill) Belles, Missy (James) Clement, Trisha Malin, Laura (Corey) Leonard, Cory (Brandy) Belles and Cody Belles; grandchildren, Noah, Grayson, Derrick, Courtney, Sierra, Austin, Chris, Amber, Kylie and Logan; great-grandson, Braylen; sisters, Mary Eschuk, Judy Collins and Bert Hollis and brothers, Rex and Denver Williams.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James, to whom she was married 21 years; brothers, Ray Williams, Emitt Williams, Tex Williams, Hank Williams, Willie Williams, Butler Williams and Edgel Williams; sisters, Helene Williams and Clara Jarvis.

Family will receive friends Wednesday, May 13, from 4 until 8 P.M., at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. Services will be held Thursday, May 14, at 10 A.M., at the funeral home. Private burial will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.

Roshon_EffieEffie made her transition peacefully in her sleep. Her life was filled with family, love and wisdom. Her life included 105 years of remarkable milestones.

She spanned the era of America that went from horse and buggy to day trips to Europe and beyond. She saw the advent of automobiles, planes, computers, telephones, radio, TV and internet. She realized indoor plumbing and electricity coming into all homes. She witnessed two World Wars, The Great Depression and The Great Recession and on and on.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold E. Roshon; her son, Richard H. Baker; son-in-law, Dr. Delorre D. Haddad and all her Ziegler siblings.

She is survived by her daughters, Betty M. (William) Sears of Grand Prairie, Texas and Lily Jean Baker (Delorre) Haddad of Medina and Surprise, Arizona; her beloved grandchildren, Sandra L. Jimeson of Texas, Ellen Haddad (Thomas) Stevenson, David D. (Judy) Haddad of Phoenix, Arizona and Joni Toth (David) Whitmyer of Medina and many great-grandchildren, great-great-granchildren and nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 16, 2015 a 11 A.M, at Medina United Methodist Church, 4747 Foote Road, Medina. A light lunch will be provided following the service. Private burial was held at Spring Grove Cemetery.

Henry J. Ritz, 93, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at his home. Henry was born May 28, 1921 in Lakewood, to the late Charles and Letitia (Morson) Ritz.

He retired from Chevrolet after 30 years of service. Henry loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener.

Henry is survived by his brother, Eugene (Ruth) Hutchins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie (Holcomb) Ritz; sisters, Dorothy Fuchs, Myrtle Kresak and Helen Hawkins.

Senkar_MaryMary Margaret Senkar, 89, a resident of Brunswick, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015 at the Hospice of Medina County. She was born January 26, 1926, to Horace and Helen (nee MacDonald) Breon in Cleveland.

Mary and Robert E. Senkar were married on May 12, 1956. She was a member of Brunswick VFW Auxiliary, St. Ambrose Church and she was known as “The Seamstress” for Gotta Dance Studio and Tour de Force. Mary and Robert enjoyed being world travelers, which included cruise ship vacations.

She will be dearly missed by her beloved husband; sons, Gary (Cheryl), John (Laura, deceased), Bob (Cindy), Mike (Pat); grandchildren, Lynn, Julie (Aaron), James (Becka), Kathy, John Adam, Genivieve, Katie (Nate), Steven, Drew (Jacque), Joel and Faith; great-grandchildren, Laura, Rachel, David, Max, Jacob and Aria and one brother, David (Ruth) Breon.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, May 15, 2015 from 4 to 8 P.M., at Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 3477 Medina Road (corner of River Styx and Rt. 18), Medina. Anthony David Collins, Jr., 4 months, of Lodi, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 9, 2015 in Lodi. He was born January 16, 2015 in Barberton, Ohio, to Anthony David and Bethany Lynne Yuravak Collins.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his sisters, Adrianna Collins and Eva Ogle; brother, Christopher Collins; paternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Dave and Tammy Collins of Parma Hts.; paternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Bobbi and James Newberry of Apple Creek, Ohio; maternal grandfather, Robert Yuravak of Chatham; paternal great-grandparents, Willie and Caroline Edwards of Burbank, Ohio and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Jayne Yuravak.

Julia G. Rich, 61, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2015, in Medina. Julia was born October 17, 1953 in Cleveland, to Ernest and Billie (Keyes) Cantley.

She will always be remembered as a proud grandmother, who adored spending time with her family. Julia loved camping and walking.

She is survived by her children, Rebecca L. Prechtel, Frances (Carlton) Watkins, Ernest (Tina Jackson) Rich and Lisa Rich; father, Ernest Cantley; grandchildren, Heather, Brittany, Ashley, Melissa, Laura, Karyssa, Carlton, Kara, James, Neveah, Ivonna and Michael; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, James Cantley and sister, Vickie Spradlin.

Julia was preceded in death by her husband, James, to whom she was married 43 years; mother, Billie Cantley and sister, Joyce Cantley.

Family will receive friends Friday, May 15, from 6 until 8 P.M., at the Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. Services will be held Friday at 8 P.M., at the funeral home. Michelle Powell will officiate.

Mark J. Carrow, 51, of Litchfield, passed away, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 12, 2015. He was born March 29, 1964, in Middleburg Heights, to the late Robert and Sandra (nee Slack) Carrow.

He worked for over 30 years at Arcelor Mittal Steel but will be remembered most for his love of horseback riding, camping, fishing, hunting and four wheeling. Mark was a loving and devoted husband, father, son and brother and will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He leaves behind his loving sons, Cody and Tyler; his sister-in-law, Jane (John) Martz; his nieces, Jillian and Christine Zebris and many extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce.

Family will receive friends Saturday, May 16, from 2 until 4 and 6 until 7:30 P.M., at Waite and Son Funeral Home, 3300 Center Rd., Brunswick. A service for Mark will follow at 7:30 P.M., at the funeral home.

Radley_MaryMary Ruth Radley, of Amarillo, Texas, formerly of Litchfield, died Tuesday, April 21, 2015. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 16, at 12 Noon at Waite and Sons Funeral Home, 756 N. Court St., Medina.

Mary was born September 20 in Lodi and was raised and graduated from high school in West Salem. On August 4, 1963, she married the love of her life, Jim Radley. They lived together in Litchfield until his death in 2009. She was a long time member of Litchfield United Church and she loved her church family.

She was a homemaker for many years and worked part time as an office manager for a local business. The job she was most passionate about was with Medina Workforce, where she helped students find jobs. After her children were grown, she achieved her dream of attending college. She received an Associate’s Degree in accounting from Lorain Community College in 1985.

After retirement, she volunteered at the Medina Hospice office. In 2009, Mary moved to the Clairmont Retirement Apartment in Amarillo, where she made many new friends. Her lifetime joys were gardening and canning, playing cards, working puzzles and helping others. But most of all, she loved being a wife, a mother of five, a grandmother of 12 and a great-grandmother of 14.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Elsie Miner; her husband of 46 years, Jim Radley and her sister, Jackie Brown.

Survivors include her son, Robert Boyce and wife, Kay of Orlando Florida, Marijane McConoughey of East Haven, Connecticut, Deb Gregory of Polk, Ohio, Barbara Mansfield and husband, Lyndol of Amarillo, Texas and Dan Radley and wife, Herldine of Royse City, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Donnie Franklin Metheney

Metheney_DonnieFAA - don't move -OBIT FLAGDonnie Franklin Metheney, 87, died peacefully at his home in Seville, Tuesday, May 12, 2015. He was born April 10, 1928, one of nine children, to William Milton and Sarah Sadie (Jarvis) Metheney, in Chloe, West Virginia. He married his sweetheart, Anna Helen Caldwell on October 25, 1950 and together they were blessed to raise two children.

Donnie worked as a coal miner in West Virginia before moving to Ohio, where he initially worked for Firestone in Akron and then at Ford Motor Company in Cleveland, retiring after 33 years. He proudly served his country during the Korean War conflict as a Sergeant First Class with the 4.2 Heavy Mortar Battalion, 2nd Chemical Division, United States Army, earning the Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars and the United Nations Service Medal.

An avid sportsman throughout his life, Donnie enjoyed baseball, golfing, fishing, hunting and bowling. In the latter, he twice achieved a perfect 300 game. He enjoyed working in his yard and in his vegetable garden and was most proud of his beautiful tomato crops. Donnie also loved to watch the birds at his feeders and the ducks who would waddle into his yard to be fed. His family remembers him dearly as a funny, gentle, generous and kind father who was strong in his Christian faith and often quoted Scripture. He was well known and well liked in his community and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Donnie is survived by his son, Jason Metheney; daughter, Sarah (Carl) Thorley; granddaughter, Jennifer (Paul) Naylor; great-grandchildren, Elaine and Wesley Naylor; sister, Halcie Shaffer; many nieces , nephews and friends and his beloved canine companion, Daisy Mae.

In addition to his parents, Donnie was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Ann; sisters, Elsie Shaffer and Nelsie Raustad and brothers, Oral, Dewey, Toll, Troy and Ronald Lee Metheney.

Calling hours are scheduled from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 P.M., Friday, May 15, at Armstrong Funeral Home, 25 Pleasant St., Seville. The funeral will also be held at Armstrong’s at 11 A.M., Saturday, May 16, with the Reverend Evelyn Manzella officiating.

Senkar_MaryMary Margaret Senkar, 89, a resident of Brunswick, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015 at the Hospice of Medina County. She was born January 26, 1926, to Horace and Helen (nee MacDonald) Breon in Cleveland.

Mary and Robert E. Senkar were married on May 12, 1956. She was a member of Brunswick VFW Auxiliary, St. Ambrose Church and she was known as “The Seamstress” for Gotta Dance Studio and Tour de Force. Mary and Robert enjoyed being world travelers, which included cruise ship vacations.

She will be dearly missed by her beloved husband; sons, Gary (Cheryl), John (Laura, deceased), Bob (Cindy), Mike (Pat); grandchildren, Lynn, Julie (Aaron), James (Becka), Kathy, John Adam, Genivieve, Katie (Nate), Steven, Drew (Jacque), Joel and Faith; great-grandchildren, Laura, Rachel, David, Max, Jacob and Aria and one brother, David (Ruth) Breon.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, May 15, 2015 from 4 to 8 P.M., at Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 3477 Medina Road (corner of River Styx and Rt. 18), Medina. Funeral Service will also be held at the funeral home Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 9:30 A.M. Burial to follow in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Hospice of Medina County, 5075 Windfall Road, Medina, OH 44256.
