Mary Jean Thompson

Mary Jean Thompson (nee Wasserman), 75, of Hudson, died Sunday, September 2, 2012 at Laurel Lake Retirement Community. Mrs. Thompson was raised in the Northwest Ohio Town of Continental.

She attended Bowling Green State University, where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega, and worked as an executive secretary at the Sylvania Electric Co. in Ottawa, Ohio, and Wesley Aves Advertising in Grand Rapids, Michigan, before becoming a stay-at-home mother. She spent most of her married life in Westfield Center before moving first to Sarasota, Florida, then to Hudson. Mrs. Thompson excelled in cooking, baking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, tole painting, ceramics and interior design. She also enjoyed reading, playing golf and tennis, and following college and professional basketball and football.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Robert; daughter, Lynne of Cleveland; son, Bruce of Charlotte, North Carolina; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cletus and Margaret (nee Weidenhamer); and a brother, John.

Funeral services were private. A memorial service is scheduled for 3:30 P.M., September 14, 2012 in the Serenity Chapel at Laurel Lake Retirement Community’s Crown Center, 200 Laurel Lake Drive, Hudson.

The Johnson-Romito Funeral Home, Hudson, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Thompson’s name to the Laurel Lake Foundation.
