Sidney “Sue” (Hargis) Cecil, 77, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 15, 2015, surrounded by loving family after battling lung Cancer.
She is survived by daughter, Christine (Jeff) Darnell and son, Rick Cecil of Wadsworth; stepdaughter, Donna Cecil of Copley; granddaughters, Brittany (Zach) Few of Wadsworth and Kara (Alex) Wietrzykowski of Gainesville, Florida; grandsons, Tyler Darnell of Wadsworth and Justin Cecil of Ocala, Florida; sisters, Gatha “Gay” Roach of Nacogdoches, Texas and Jane Pesko of Akron; sisters in-law, Lucy Hargis of Tallmadge and Rose Hargis of Cuyahoga Falls and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Joseph “Jess” Cecil; parents, Raymond and Emma (Richardson) Hargis of Copley; her brothers, Donald Ray Hargis of Cuyahoga Falls, and Ivan Glen “Gus” Hargis of Tallmadge and her stepson, Mark Cecil of Copley.
Sue and Jess owned Lanning’s, an award winning fine dining restaurant in Bath. It has been family owned and operated for over 40 years. They also owned a Quarter horse farm in Wadsworth. They bred, trained and showed horses competitively with their children, winning many awards and world titles.
Sue’s greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren and her most precious hours were spent with them. Her lively spirit and giving nature will always be remembered.
Services will be held at 11 A.M., Monday, December 21, at the Billow Fairlawn Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron. Interment will be at Copley Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday, December 20, from 2 until 5 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jess Cecil Memorial Fund c/o OQHA, P.O. Box 209, 101 Tawa Rd., Richwood OH 43344.
