Lawrence Francis Benninger, 85, of Brunswick, passed away Friday, August 1, 2014, at the Hospice of Medina County. Larry was born to the late Lawrence and Catherine (Kennelley) Benninger May 8, 1929 in Lorain.
He attended St. Ignatius High School and Fenn College. He married his wife, Ann (Pleszko) 62 years ago at St. Margaret of Hungary Catholic Church. They have lived in Brunswick together for 57 years, where they are members of St. Ambrose Parish.
Larry served in the United States Air Force and worked as a chemist at TRW, SK Wellman, and Cleveland Alloy Castings. He was a bowling alley proprietor for the Iron Kettle and the Elyria Bowling Center. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He dedicated his time to coaching CYO football, assisting with boy scouts, and instructing children with special needs at St. Ambrose PSR. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. His greatest interest was following the events of all his children and grandchildren.
Larry is survived by his five children, Therese (Steve) Kowalski of Northville Michigan, Larry (Maureen) of Littleton Colorado, Michael (Kathleen) of Solon, Richard (Meg) of Medina, and Mary (Andrew) Truax of Cuyahoga Falls; sister, Kathleen Shepard; grandchildren, Matthew (Kristen), Mark, Christopher, Bridget, Ryan, Elizabeth, Kevin, Kaylin, Kathleen, Drew, Richard, Morgan, Brenna, and Findlay; great-grandchildren, Michael and Jonathan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Laurene Brinkman.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ambrose, 929 Pearl Rd., Brunswick, on Monday, August 4, 2014, at 11 A.M.
