Dorothy A. Sherron, 85, of Middletown, Ohio, died Friday, May 9, 2014, at Hospice of Butler-Warren Counties. She was born September 18, 1928, and was a lifelong resident of Middletown. Dorothy was the daughter of Robert F. Petry and Lela A. (Pinkerton) Petry.
Dorothy was a 1946 graduate of Middletown High School, a 1950 graduate of Miami University with a B.Ed., and M.Ed. in 1955. Dorothy went on to become a 30 year elementary school teacher, all in The Middletown City School District, and was passionate about her profession and her students. Dorothy was a mentor to many. While at Miami, Dorothy was very involved, having been President of Alpha Chapter, Delta Sigma Epsilon, and University Club, and was later affiliated with Delta Zeta. Dorothy was also a member of OEA, NEA and numerous student and service organizations, including Merrie Mothers Club, Civil Air Patrol, and was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. Dorothy was a lifelong active member of The First Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School.
Dorothy married the love of her life, Harold Sherron, in 1948, and they spent over 55 wonderful years together, flying their airplane throughout the western hemisphere, with Dorothy as Hal’s co-pilot, all while raising three loving children. Dorothy was very involved in the lives of her grandchildren, as well.
Dorothy is survived by one daughter, Jennifer A. (husband, Ed “Buz”) Hiteshue of Medina; one son, James E. (wife, Melanie) Sherron of Middletown; six grandchildren, Elizabeth, William and Nancy Hiteshue, Nicholas, Luke and Allison Sherron; brother, Dale (Janice) Petry of Newton, New Jersey; and sister-in-law, Karen Petry of Newark, Delaware. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold in 2004; son, Jeffrey in 2002; infant son, Jonathan in 1965; brother Robert Petry; and her parents.
Dorothy was well respected and loved by all she knew and our lives have been enriched by her wit, special touch and wonderful personality. We will miss her dearly. Special thanks to her Hospice and Visiting Angels caregivers, especially Donna and Theresa, and the many family members who helped care for her.
Funeral services will be 11 A.M., Thursday, May 15, 2014, at The First Presbyterian Church of Middletown, with Reverend Gregory C. Gibson officiating. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 P.M., Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, Middletown, Ohio. Burial will be at the Woodside Cemetery, following the funeral service.
