Virginia Yockey, 87, of Bainbridge, Georgia, passed away Monday, September 9, 2013, at Memorial Manor Nursing Home. She was born November 5, 1925, in Wadsworth, the daughter of Herbert Hartman Hutchinson and Esther Phyllis Yoder Hutchinson.
During her long working career, she worked many jobs and retired from the Salvation Army in 1995. She was an independent and free spirit who loved her family, nature, gardening, travel, picnics, animals, music, Halloween, and the Atlanta Braves. She mostly enjoyed helping people and always cheered for the underdog. She will be missed greatly by her family.
Survivors include her son, Phil Yockey and his wife, Heidi, of Brooklyn, New York; her daughter, Beth Y. Eck and her husband, Allen, of Bainbridge, Georgia; her grandchildren, Sarah Thomas and Dave of Bainbridge, Chris Eck and his wife, Julie, of Havana, Florida, Katie Clinton and her husband, Chris, of Bainbridge, and Alex Yockey of Brooklyn; her great grandchildren, Bailey Prince, Kathryn Eck, Abbie Thomas, and Caleb Eck; her nieces, Ann Bryans and her husband, George, of Denver, Colorado, and Jane Peacemaker and her husband, Mike, of Winchester, Virginia; and her cousin, Susie Anglim and her husband, Greg, of Niantic, Connecticut.
A memorial celebration of her life will be held at 4 P.M., Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel, Bainbridge, Georgia, with Philip Yockey officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
