Lloyd Jay Alber

Early Tuesday morning, March 4, 2014, Lloyd Jay Alber, of Henderson Nevada, made his transition to Heaven. Lloyd was born May 27, 1934 in Granger Township, Medina, into a family of dairy farmers.

Lloyd had a love for nature and for people. At an early age, Lloyd learned the value of hard work as he ran the H.W Alber and Sons farm with his father, Harold and brother, Richard. On the farm, he gained a passion and strong spiritual sense of this world as he experienced firsthand the great creations of God and watched nature unfold before him in the land that he tilled and the animals he raised. He often wondered why God didn’t give the cows a day of rest on Sundays as he toiled on the farm seven days a week, throughout the first half of his life. While in Ohio, Lloyd and his family were active in their rural community church – The Remsen Christian Church and frequently attended the Akron Baptist Temple, where his in-laws worshipped.

As the dairy farm became an economic struggle, the family slowly migrated west. In 1985, Lloyd with his beautiful wife, followed his parents and children to Phoenix, Arizona, where Lloyd and Charlene began new careers in the real estate industry. This is where Lloyd got to enjoy his other passion in life, working with people. He never met a stranger and was quickly admired and loved by all who knew him. He was driven to help people turn the dream of owning a home into a reality. His farm based work ethic and love for people earned him many awards and success in the real estate market.

In 2005, Lloyd and Charlene retired and health conditions became a part Lloyd’s daily life. In 2007, Lloyd and Charlene relocated to Henderson, Nevada to be closer to family and share more in the activities of their grandchildren. They received tremendous joy seeing their grandchildren frequently.

In the fall of 2011, Lloyd and Charlene joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and were sealed for time and eternity on September 29, 2012 in the Las Vegas LDS Temple.

Lloyd left an impression on all who met him, and will always be remembered for his bright smile, jokes, words of encouragement, farm stories, and being positive and loving in all situations. He was never shy about saying hello to a complete stranger and quickly gained new friends. He will be missed by all.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold William Alber and Ethel Lucille Tremaine Alber; brother, Richard Lewis Alber; and in-laws, Malcolm Rice Caraway and Geneva Elizabeth Dailey Caraway.

Lloyd is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years and 11 months, Charlene Ola Caraway Alber; daughters, Karen Alber Sheckard of Silver Lake, Washington, Kimberly Alber of Phoenix, Arizona; son, Kenneth Lloyd Alber and daughter-in-law, Michelle Sorensen Alber of Henderson, Nevada; one very special granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Alber; five grandsons, Jonathan Sheckard, Jason Sheckard, Ryan Kenneth Alber, Brandon Michael Alber, and Chaston Lloyd Alber; and two great-grandchildren, McKenzie Sheckard and Landon Sheckard.

Friends may visit at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Chapel, 2497 Cozy Hill Circle, Henderson, Nevada 89052. A Visitation will be held Friday evening, March 7, 2014, from 6 until 8:30 P.M., and Saturday morning, March 8, 2014, from 9 until 10:30 A.M., with a Funeral Service following at 11 A.M. Interment will be at Palm Eastern Mortuary and Cemetery, 7600 S. Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89123.

Donations can be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Muscular Sclerosis Society and the Lou Ruvo Brain Institute at the Cleveland Clinic in Las Vegas. Friends are invited to visit www.palmeastern.com, to share stories of Lloyd’s life.
