Joan C. McClellan, 78, passed away Monday, February 4, 2013. She was born January 28, 1935 in Cleveland, to the late George and Ruby (Yore) Allen.

She was a realtor for Gershpacher Realty, later Coldwell Banker, since 1970.

Joan was the loving mother of David (Kimberly) Szerpicki, Susan Muntz, Sandra (Russell) Mahoney, Janine (John) Jeffrey, Lisa Burke and Brigitte (Timothy) Jackson; dear grandmother of Michelle, Christy, Vanessa, Kayley, Kelsey and Sheila; great-grandmother of Maddie, JT, Bella, Mia, Ava, and Daniel; loving sister of Gerald (Susan) Harbak; and dearest friend of Judy Thomas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Abraham “Jack” McClellan.

The family will receive friends Thursday, February 7, 2013 from 4 until 6 P.M., at the Waite & SonFuneral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. Graveside service will be held Friday, February 8, 2013, 1 P.M., at Spring Grove Cemetery.

Duane Melvin Hamlin

Duane Melvin Hamlin, 85, of North Fort Myers, Florida, passed away Tuesday, January 29 2013. Duane was born June 14, 1927 in Medina.

He served in the U.S. Navy (Seabees) during WWII, in the Philippines. Upon his return from the war, he worked at the Medina County Highway Department, where he later became the Superintendent. After his retirement, he moved with his wife to Florida in 1980.

Duane is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joyce; daughter, Bonnie Bogard (Joseph); granddaughter, Nicole Bogard-Wilson (Cody); grandson, Andrew Bogard (Alyssa); and great grandsons, Brandon and Adam Roshon. He also is survived by his brother, Robert Hamlin (Naomi); and sister, Gwen Elleton (Jon); along with two nephews and a niece. Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Bertha Hamlin; and grandson, Shaun Bogard.

Per Duane’s request, there will be no service or memorial, however, if anyone wishes, they may donate to Hope Hospice in his honor.

George M. “Red” Gallagher, 79, of Medina, passed away Monday, February 4, 2013. He was born August 29, 1933, in Cleveland.

He was the son of John and the late Marie Dunn and the late George Gallagher. George retired after 48 years of service from W.W. Williams. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

George was the beloved husband of Ruth (Schapel), to whom he was married 56 years; loving father of Sharon Traylinek (Joe), Kathleen Gress (Tom), Jeanne Anciaux (Brian), Susan Martz (Bob) and John Gallagher; dear grandfather of seven; loving brother of Danny Dunn, Wayne Dunn, Shirley Bedford and Bonnie Kruse.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Dunn.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, February 8, 2013, 9:30 A.M., at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 606 E. Washington St., Medina. Father Thomas Stock will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at Poe Cemetery. Family will receive friends Thursday, February 7, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M., at the Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina.

Victor Peter Palzes, 86, of Brunswick, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2013, with his family by his side. He was born on April 13, 1926 to the late Stanley and Antonette (nee Norvaish) Palzes in Cleveland.

Victor proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.

Victor will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 63 years, Rosaleen (nee Gartland); loving children, Kathleen (James) Waldrop, Victor (Teresa), Patricia, Joseph (deceased), Michael (Kim), Eileen Woods and Rosaleen (Guy) Storch; treasured grandchildren, James, Joseph (Michelle Tamburello), Jessica, Vanessa, Christopher, Michael, Kent, Samantha and Shannon; cherished great grandchildren, Emiley and Hailey; brother, Andrew; and sister, Joan (Chuck deceased) Lake.

Sarah C. Leasure, 82, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013, after a long illness. She was born on January 30, 1931 in Smithfield, Pennsylvania to Russell and Olive (nee Wilson) Clemmer.

Sarah and William J. Leasure were married on January 21, 1947, and raised their six children. William passed away on July 31, 1994. Sarah worked in the Deli at Finast Grocery Store, and was a Member of Local #880, and also a member of West Salem Seniors. She was a devoted bingo player. Surviving are her children, William (Lori), Diane (Barry) Heckerd, Dana (Dee Anna), Mark (Jamie), April (Dan) Jones, Bert (Lori); 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and a brother, Donald (Ursula) Clemmer.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, nine siblings, and great grandchild, Dennis Harris.

The family invites friends for visitation at Carlson Funeral Home, 3477 Medina Road (corner of River Styx and Rt. 18), Medina, on Friday, February 8, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 P.M. Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 9, 2013, at 10 A.M., also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memory Gardens.

Kathryn N. Riffle, 79, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013. She was born June 28, 1933 in Sandusky, to the late William and Mary Louise (Snider) Dickens.

She formerly worked at the U.S. Post Office and Buehler’s.

Kathryn was the mother of John Riffle (Jeane) of Valley City, Thomas Riffle (Clare) of Dalton, James Riffle of Medina, Rebecca Boyette of Lakewood and Conrad Riffle of Brunswick; grandmother of nine; sister of Shirley Kvetko of Medina, Theodore Dickens of Medina, William A. Dickens of Germany and David Dickens of Richfield; and mother-in-law of Emily Riffle.

Harold R. “Cornbread” Milam, 81, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Harold was born October 2, 1931, in Montcoal, West Virginia to the late Cal and Qunnie (Petry) Milam.

He was a teamster truck driver for Schwebel’s and retired after 26 years of service. Harold loved spending time with his grandchildren, gardening and enjoyed playing softball with his church family. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, returning from Korea as a decorated war veteran.

Harold was the beloved husband of Rose Marie (Newberry), to whom he was married 58 years; loving father of Robert (Lori) Milam, Terry Hall, Lisa (Michael) Vaughn and Jennifer (Tim) Catherwood; dear grandfather of Paul Milam, Tiffany Hall, Katelyn Vaughn, Taya, Brooklyn, Gretchen and Madeline Catherwood; great-grandfather of Shelby, Ryan and Chase Bigley; loving brother of Paul (Sue) Milam, June Thompson, Shirley (Charlie) Kessel, Alice (James) Spangler, Mary (Jack) Ferrell and Patricia (Jim) Bussel; close brother-in-law of Deborah (Gene) Thacker and uncle/grandpa of Mariah and Briana.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, James, Kelly, Roy and Jerry Milam; and his sisters, Agnes Freeman, Frances Coleman and Joyce Stravakis.

Randell A. “Randy” Greathouse, of Chippewa Lake, passed away suddenly at the age of 52. He was born August 19, 1960 to Bobby R. Greathouse and Zella M. Greathouse (Akers).

He was preceded in death by his mother; sister, Caroline; niece, Darlene and many other family members and friends.

Randy is survived by his father of Brunswick; sister, Bobbie Baier (Chuck Plues) of Chippewa Lake; brother, Robert of Brunswick; nieces Melissa (Tim), Jennifer, Rebecca (Justin), Stacy (Tom), Diamond (Ray), Alyssa, Cheyanne and many others; nephew, Trace and others; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and grandmother.

Randy had a beautiful heart that radiated into the lives of many. Randy was a genuine person and would do whatever he could to help out anyone. He enjoyed spending time with his family, he had a great passion for the outdoors, enjoyed biking and lawn maintenance.

Services will held at 1 P.M., Monday, February 11, 2013 at the Waite & Son Funeral Home, Medina Chapel, 765 N. Court St. Family will receive friends Saturday, February 9, 2013 and Sunday, February 10, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.

Michael “Mike” Burianek

Michael “Mike” Burianek, 58, of Sheffield Village, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, February 7, 2013. He was born April 17, 1954 to Joseph and Marcella (nee Marshall) Burianek in Rochester, Pennsylvania.

Mike worked as a floral designer for 30 years, most recently for Arkay Floral and Gifts in Brunswick. He enjoyed spending time with his grandson, gardening and building model trains. Mike was in the midst of putting together a large aquarium for his fish.

Mike was always one to make people laugh, no matter how rough their day had been; you could always count on Mike to bring a smile to your face. Mike has touched so many lives and warmed so many hearts with his loving spirit. He will always be remembered and forever missed by all who knew him. Mike, may you rest in peace; and for those you leave behind, we will find comfort in knowing that you will be watching over us.

Mike will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Sue (nee Walls); loving children, Becky-Sue of Sheffield Village and Kristin (Brandon) Light of Elyria; treasured grandson, Alexander; sisters, Patricia Rose Burianek and Cheryl Vallecorsa; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph, Jr.

Steve M. Piskach, 80, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013. He was born November 1, 1931 in Cleveland, to the late Thomas and Gloria (Longrich) Piskach.

Steve was a former fire fighter for the City of Cleveland for 25 years and served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. Steve refereed high school football for 35 years, and played football, baseball and softball for many years. He loved spending time on Chippewa Lake with his family.

Steve was the beloved husband of Florence (Pittner); loving father of Susan (Patrick) Gallagher of Parma, Steve of Cleveland, David (Wanda) of Pfluggerville, Texas, Paula (Steve) Midlik of Medina, Lynn (Tom) O’Donnell of Dover, and Debbie Rhoads of Mesa, Arizona; dear grandfather of Tommy and Rebecca Vajda, Patrick Gallagher, Laura and Philip Piskach, Corinne, Bryan and Casey Midlik, Benn, Jay, Emma, Paul, and Meg O’Donnell, and Dana and Luke Rhoads; great-grandfather of Austin Walker; loving brother of Bob (Maureen) of Parma and James (Ellie) of Middleburg Heights.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas, Emil, Donald and Russell; and sister, Madeline.

Geraldine “Gerry” C. Walter (nee Andrews), 86, of Brunswick, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at Hospice Services of Southwest General Health Center, Strongsville. Gerry was born in Cleveland, to the late Frank and Katherine (nee Renck) Andrews.

She was married to Charles J. Walter for 53 and a half years, before his death in 1999. She was employed as a Head Cashier for Fisher Foods and later Fazio’s Grocery Store for 35 years. She enjoyed traveling around the United States, going to Amish Country, going on bus tours, attending Primetimers and Happy Wanderers meetings and also playing the slot machines.

She is survived by her son, Charles R. (Margie) of Parma Heights; daughter, Bonnie Ann Miller of Brunswick; grandchildren, Paul Miller (Rachel), Timothy Miller (Amy), Sean Miller, Ashley and Chad Walter; great grandmother of Shaley, Myranda, Cody, Jordan, Danny and Jayna; and great great grandmother of Dexter and Nicholas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; and all of her siblings, Virginia Kopf, Marie Kopf, and Francis, Charles Leroy, Eugene and Lawrence Andrews.

Barbara Kibbee, 76, of Brunswick, formerly of Parma, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2013. She was born October 9, 1936, to the late Ottie and Ethel (nee Wanner) Sweeney in Sun, West Virginia.

Barbara was a member of Grace Church Christian Missionary Alliance. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Barbara is survived by her loving daughter, Kim (Todd) Tofil; treasured grandchildren, Aaron, Danny and Seth; brother, Harold; sisters, Lucille and Lenore; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ray, Cecil and Gene.

Roger Ray Canfield, 63, of Chatham, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at his home. He was born in Sutton, West Virginia, on October 20, 1949 to Curtis Edward and Maggie Lena Mollahan Canfield and had resided in the Chatham area for the past 40 years.

Roger retired in 2000 from Ford Motor Company in Brookpark and was an avid hunter. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Vietnam.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred; five children, Lena (Ray Landis) Canfield of West Salem, Harry (Cassandra) Canfield of Seville, Joseph Canfield of Chatham, Jerry Canfield of Medina, Valerie Canfield of Brunswick; 10 grandchildren, Jillian, Grace, Andrew, Benjamin, Carly, Peyton, Lucas, Isabella, Katie, and Samuel; sisters, Flossie Spinks of West Virginia, Corrine Drosneos of Wadsworth, Sandy Kay (William) Sims of Medina; brothers, Denver (Geraldine) Canfield of Indiana, Allen Canfield of Rittman, David Canfield of West Virginia; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings.

Memorial service will be Sunday, February 10, 2013 at 4 P.M. at the Parker & Son Funeral Home, 210 Medina St., Lodi, (330) 948-1122. Pastor Joe Skladany will officiate. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Graveside service will be Monday, February 11, 2013 at 9:30 A.M. at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.

Burns Rowland, 84, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2013 in Ashland. He was born October 4, 1928 in Johnson County, Kentucky, to the late Fred and Dona Bell (May) Rowland.

Burns formerly owned and operated Rowland’s Maytag and Appliance for many years, and was a bricklayer and builder. He was a member and deacon at Litchfield Baptist Church, also a member of the Litchfield Volunteer Fire Department, ATA Association, RLCWA board member, and board member and coach for the Litchfield Little League baseball team, for many years. Burns served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was the loving father of Deborah Sherman (Michael), Burns Edward Rowland (Loretta) and Hubert D. Rowland (Christine); dear grandfather of Heather (Michael) Rutkowski, Alyssia (Michael) Nativio, Clint (Christine) Rowland, Tabitha Norris, Stephanie (Jacob) Mohler, Rebekah (Ryan) Brown, Zachary Sherman, Sarah Rowland, Claude Rowland and David Rowland; great-grandfather of, Caitlyn, Kelsey, Dylan, Cole, Lachlan, Codey, Mikaela, Caeden, Dorian and Calen; devoted brother of Isaac and Ervin Rowland and Ida Ann Stamper.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Louise (Price) Rowland, to whom he was married 59 years; brothers, Herbert, Armstrong, Charles, Henry and Claude; sisters, Flora and Cora Nell.

Service will be held Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 11 A.M., at Litchfield Baptist Church, 4022 Avon Lake Rd., Litchfield, 44253. Rev. David Shimp and Pastor Tom Rowland, will officiate. Clarence M. Steele, 78, of Medina, passed away Friday, February 8, 2013. He was born October 30, 1934 in Lodi, to the late Charles and Dolores (Seward) Steele.

Clarence formerly was the circulation manager at the Medina Gazette, he also was a manager at Stop-N-Go and later worked at Buehler’s. He was a member of the Medina Moose Lodge and Medina Eagles #2224. Clarence enjoyed crafts and metal detecting. He served his country in the U.S. Army.

He was the beloved husband of Marian (Dolejs), to whom he was married 50 years; loving father of Mark J. Steele and Carol M. Hoffman (Todd); and dear grandfather of Samantha Nicole Steele.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Steele.

Family will receive friends from 9 A.M. until the time of services at 11 A.M., Monday, February 11, 2013 at the Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina Chapel. Pastor Donald L. Trigg will officiate.
