Michael F. Fechko, 75, of St. Petersburg, Florida, formerly of Ohio, passed away suddenly, Saturday February 20, 2016 in St. Petersburg. He was born in Cleveland on September 14, 1940, to the late Ruth and Michael Fechko.
He graduated in 1958 at North Royalton High School, as class President and football quarterback. Right out of school, he married Joy Susan Mullen and opened his own Auto Parts store, then selling it and working in the Steel Mills in Cleveland. In the mid 60’s, he worked at Paramount Supply selling heavy equipment parts, before he started Midway Equipment Buy & Refurbishing, then selling heavy equipment. In 1968, he moved his family to Burbank, Ohio and started farming with his family, where they farmed a couple hundred acres and raised Black Angus cattle, still all this time buying and selling construction equipment, becoming a dealership for Terex and John Deere. In the mid 80’s, he started spending his winters in St. Petersburg.
In 1988, he and his two sons started an Excavating Company in Ohio. He was an avid car enthusiast. He built hot rods from the ground up, was an expert mechanic, body man and painter. He enjoyed being in Florida, boating, going on cruises, sports and fixing things. He was always there to fix anything, nothing scared him.
He was a great husband, father and friend and will be greatly missed.
Mike is survived by his wife, Joy, of 54 years; sons, John (Lisa Iseli) and Dean (Tami); sister, Lee Ann Harris of St. Petersburg, Florida; grandchildren, Justine, Ciara, Clayton, Devon and Quinton; nieces, Patty, Wendy (Roger) Susan (R.D.); nephew, Michael (Vicki) and cousins, Roy Walters, Joan McGlashan, Carol Byrn, Tom Moenich and Sally Walter.
Always quick with a joke and a smile, he made our world a better place for any that knew him.
The family would like to thank all the great friends he had in Ohio and in Florida and also at the Y in Florida, he had some of the best friends you could ever ask for.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 6, 2016, from 3 to 6 P.M., at Waite and Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina.
