On Friday, January 15, 2016, Karen Ann Broa Swartwood Dempsey went home to the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She passed away peacefully in the home of her daughter, surrounded by her loving family. Karen Ann Broa was born July 23, 1943 in Lakewood.
She graduated from Parma Senior High School in 1961. Karen devoted her life to serving her family. She enjoyed years of driving a school bus for Brunswick City Schools and spoke fondly of friends she made there.
Karen was preceded in death by her dear mother, Rhea Bertha Broa and her husband, Frank Joseph Dempsey.
She is survived by her brother, hero and best friend, Bruce Broa and his loving wife, Bobbie. Karen will forever be remembered and loved by her daughters, Staycie Renee Barrett and Wendy Dawn Eastwood (Thomas); niece, Belinda Berry (Dan); stepdaughters, Barbara Halusker, Debbie Lukco and Helene Gray (Jeff); sister-in-law, Karen Oney; nephew, Shawn Oney (Chris); first husband and friend till the end, Craig Swartwood, along with several grandchildren.
Karen will be remembered as a woman who loved her family deeply and did all she could do for those around her.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service celebrating Karen’s life on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 12 Noon at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1605 Center Road, Hinckley, (330) 278-4114.
