On December 9, 2012, Darlene Marie Cordrey (nee Johnson), 95, went to our heavenly home, to be welcomed with open arms, by loved ones and friends. There to greet her were her mother and father, Daisy and Arthur Johnson, four brothers, Ray, Douglas, Richard and Virgil, three sisters, Wanda, Ruth and special sister, Virginia Welty, who preceded her in June 2012. There to greet her were husband, Albert, grandson, Dustin Lee Kramer and granddaughter, Lynn Rae Kramer and special friend, Bud Grimes.
She was the youngest of eight children. Being born in 1917, she saw a lot of happenings in this world of ours. She was a graduate of Wadsworth High School and was in drama presentations there. Her dream was to go to nursing school, but because of financial reasons, she was unable to fulfill her dream. But she did contribute to the area by becoming a medical assistant for 43 years for Akron area doctors. She belonged to Summit County Medical Assistants’ Association, and the local Red Cross. She worked on Blood Mobile, and was an election poll worker for many years. She was also a member of Wadsworth Hospital Auxiliary, and long time member of United Methodist Church in Wadsworth. She was an excellent seamstress and crocheter, loved to make crafts and write poetry.
She will be sadly missed by daughter, Linda Kramer; granddaughters, Cheri (Rick) Weigand, Wendy (Eric) Hepner; great-grandchildren, Emily and Allison Weigand, and Paige, Cade and Bryce Hepner, along with special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday, December 16, 2012, from 4 until 7 P.M., at the Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St., Wadsworth. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, December 17, 2012, 11 A.M., at the Wadsworth United Methodist Church, 195 Broad St., Wadsworth, with Pastor Don Ebert officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations may be made to local Red Cross chapters and to the Wadsworth United Methodist Church.
