Donald L. Whitely, 79, of Brunswick, formerly of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2015. He was born December 23, 1935, in Allison, Pennsylvania, to the late George W. and Ellen (nee Dye) Whitely and attended German Township High School.
Don retired from Ford Motor Company in Brookpark after 45 years a member of Local #1250. He was a member of Quarry Lodge #382 F and AM and former Edwin S. Griffith’s #749. He served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army ASA stationed in Chitose, Japan from 1956-1959. He coordinated the Romeo group of Brunswick senior men dining out. Don was a long-time friend of Bill Wilson and a member of Parma-South Presbyterian Church of Parma.
Of everything, his favorite past time was coaching the kids in baseball, softball and pee wee football for North Royalton and Brunswick, then, coming back to help Dallas coach two granddaughters in softball. This meant more to him than golf.
Surviving are his wife, Donna Duane (nee Gray), whom he married July 18, 1960. He was the loving father of Donald Duane (Karen), Dana Diane (Dallas) Mills, both of N. Royalton and David Daniel (Kim) of Winter Springs, Florida; loving Pap of Alyssa and Rochelle Mills, Daniel, Jared, MacKenzie and Cole Whitely; brother of Janet McCardell and Kenneth (Marie). He was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Dankle; brothers, George, Bob, Jim and Tommy.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at Busch Funeral Home, 7501 Ridge Rd., Parma, on Thursday, November 19, from 3 until 6 P.M., with a Memorial Service to follow at 6 P.M. Inurnment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on Friday, November 20, at 1:30 P.M.
