Evelyn Ruth Springer (nee Clifford), 94 years of age, and a resident of Medina, formerly of South Amherst, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at Magnolia Village, Wadsworth, following a brief illness. Evelyn was born September 24, 1918 in Chatham, where she was raised and graduated from Chatham High School.
Evelyn moved to South Amherst in 1939 and made that area her home for over 60 years. She had lived in Medina for the last 10 years at the Inn at Medina.
Evelyn was a devoted housewife. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of South Amherst, where she taught Sunday School for over 26 years. Evelyn’s pastime was correspondence and she enjoyed helping her friends and neighbors.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Springer on June 10, 1998 after 44 years of marriage; brothers, Hayden, Elmer and Edward; sister, Lillian West; and her parents, Carl and Esther Clifford (nee Sears). Evelyn was survived by nephews and nieces.
Friends may call Friday, December 14, 2012, from 11 A.M., until time of service at 11:30 A.M., at the Hempel Funeral home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. The Reverend N. James Greenawalt and Reverend Max Deffenbaugh will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
