Mary Elizabeth (Gehring) McElroy, 55, passed away Monday, June 22, 2015, in Akron City Hospital. Family and friends were stunned over the very sudden end to Mary’s energetic, vibrant life.
The news of her illness spread rapidly to all of us. Within a few hours, an amazing number of people felt compelled to visit her at the hospital and express their farewells. Even the family dog was allowed on the hospital’s seventh floor. The outpouring of love was phenomenal. This is indeed a beautiful tribute to both Mary and her devoted, dedicated husband, Kevin.
Mary was born June 8, 1960, in Medina, to John R. and Helen (Morse) Gehring.
She was employed as a school teacher’s aid in Hudson. She enjoyed photography, her Kayak on Brady Lake, hiking, gardening; the list is endless, but most of all, her two grandchildren, Joshua and Anna Lynn Latham.
Mary was the beloved wife of 23 years to Kevin McElroy and devoted mother of Cody (Natasha) Latham and Andrew McElroy (Eagle Scout).
Her mother, Helen (Morse) Riehm survives, as well as her three brothers, Robert (Susan) Gehring, Jeffery (Pattie) Gehring, Thomas (Donna) Gehring and their children. She also leaves behind her brothers-in-law, Brian (Julie) McElroy and children and Daren (Jen) McElroy and their children. Mary was greatly loved also by her aunt; Betty (Morse) Einhart.
There will be no service held at this time, but there will be a celebration of her life to be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
