Douglas Petty, 88, of Medina, passed away Friday, May 15, 2015, surrounded by his family. He was born March 17, 1927, in Ida, Louisiana, to the late Crit and Gypsy Bell (Williams) Petty.
Douglas retired as a Master Gunnery Sergeant from the U.S. Marine Corps, serving 23 devoted and loyal years and in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He later worked for Bennett Lumber in Medina for another 20 years. The Marine Corps and his family were his life.
Douglas is survived by his loving children, Robert Petty, James Petty and Beth (Jeffrey) Olson; his beloved grandchildren, Charles “Bill” (Joy) Anderson and Krystal Anderson; dear great-grandchildren, Charles “Tre” and Thomas “TW” Anderson and his sister, Damaris Boston.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Phyllis in 2006; brothers, Joe, Crit, Jr., Frank and Merwin and his sisters, Myrtle and Ingles.
The family will receive friends Thursday, May 28, from 6 until 8 P.M. and Friday, May 29, from 1:30 until 2 P.M., at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will immediately follow the visitation on Friday and will be held at 2:30 P.M., at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
