Juliet Veach Gaume

Gaume_JulietJuliet Veach Gaume, 75, died Wednesday, April 1, 2015, surrounded by family and her loyal dog Clyde by her side in Medina. Julie was born June 29, 1939 in New Castle, Pennsylvania to the late James and Dr. Elizabeth (Veach) Hayden.

She grew up in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree as a home economist from Ohio University. Julie was a philanthropist at heart, demonstrating a lifetime as a faithful and true servant to all she came in contact with. There are countless memories of her living example to share her time, talents and treasures with family, friends, community and church. She was the epitome of a home economist, embracing her gifts and talents in cooking, sewing, gardening, style and decorating. She was a passionate party planner and hostess.

Julie retired from Buehler’s as a home economist, where she led cooking classes, wine tastings and taught nutrition programs in the local schools. Previously, she spent many years selling Mary Kay Cosmetics and as Director at KinderCare and Medina Weekday Nursery School. She was a proud and active member of St. Francis Xavier Church, where she made innumerable contributions including helping to start the first preschool PSR program, sharing her deep faith with candidates in the RCIA program, serving on the Stewardship Committee and participating in a Women’s Bible Study with a group of women that she held very close to her heart. Her community contributions included her leadership at Project Munch feeding the hungry, serving as a board member of the Salvation Army and tutoring prisoners at the local jail to take their GED. She will always be remembered as a loving sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.

Julie is survived by her cherished sister, Nancy Peterson and beloved brother-in-law, John; devoted children, Jenny (Randy) Fortney, Anne Gaume, Jim Gaume, Chris “Cis” (Wes) Burkhart and Greg (Tara) Gaume; adored grandchildren, Tyler, Alex and Libby Fortney, Zac Gaume, Chase Gaume, Jacob, Marie and John Burkhart, Katie and Kenzie Gaume; along with many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2015, 11 A.M., at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 606 E. Washington St., Medina. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery. Family will receive friends Monday, April 6, 2015, from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 P.M., at the Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Hospice of Medina County, 5075 Windfall Rd., Medina, OH 44256 or Salvation Army of Medina, 425 W. Liberty St., Medina, OH 44256.
