Helen Bates, 89, of Brunswick, passed away surrounded by her family Wednesday, March 25, 2015. She was born October 27, 1925 to the late George and Anna (nee Tovtin) Lesko in Pleasant City, Ohio.
Helen enjoyed square dancing, playing bridge, singing in her group “Gibson Girls” and was a founding member of St. Emilians Church. She was a loving and faithful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She leaves behind her loving children, Linda Lewis, Kathleen Bates and Ken Bates; her grandchildren, William, Amy, Daniel and Tami; her great-grandchildren, Kristen, Kara, Katie, Abby, Delanie and Keegan; great-great-granddaughter, Lillie and many extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth; son, Thomas; siblings, Michael, Msgr. William Lesko, Anna Gearo, Mary Harvilla and her son-in-law, Mike Lewis.
Family will receive friends Friday, March 27, 2015 from 4 to 8 P.M., at Waite and Son Funeral Home, 3300 Center Rd., Brunswick. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 11:45 A.M., at St. Emilian’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 1231 Substation Rd., Brunswick. Inurnment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brook Park at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church.
