On Monday, March 23, 2015, Karen Lucas (nee Lutsch), 70, of Seville, passed peacefully from this life to be eternally reunited with her son, Matthew. She was born September 16, 1944, as the oldest child, to John and Dorothy (Shumaker) Lutsch.
She was a lifelong resident of Seville. Karen took great pride in the fact that she was raised in the same home that she raised her amazing sons, Alan and Matthew. She spent the past eight years watching her grandchildren play and enjoy that same home in Seville.
After serving the community for over a decade, she retired as the Village of Seville Clerk Treasurer in 2008. During her tenure as Clerk Treasurer, Karen was appointed as the President of the State of Ohio Municipal Clerk’s Association. This position, as well as her desire to explore the world, allowed her to travel and meet new people. Since her retirement, she continued to travel with her husband, Ron, whether going on new adventures, or returning to the Grand Cayman Islands, their favorite spot.
She devoted herself to the Seville Presbyterian Church, to which she was a member for most of her life, by serving in many capacities including bell choir and counter. Karen faithfully served her community by generously giving of her time, energy and treasures, including volunteering at the Seville Library, supporting the Seville Farmer’s Market,
and in the past, serving as the president of the Seville Historical Society.
Karen’s special interests included reading, baking, trying new recipes, spending time with friends and attending church. Karen spent most of her life showing her love for others by making sure they were well fed. She generously gave of her time and talents in the kitchen, even shipping her brother, John, care packages full of goodies. Karen especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, Emma and Lucy, who loved seeing Grandma arrive with her yummy treats.
Her survivors include her beloved husband, Ronald Lucas, with whom she celebrated 23 years of marriage; loving son, Alan Blankenship and his wife, Jodi, of Concord Township; granddaughters, Emma and Lucy Blankenship and devoted brother, John Lutsch of St. Paul, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her son, Matthew; mother, Dorothy Lutsch; father, John Lutsch; grandmother, Vienna Shumaker and uncle, James Shumaker, M.D.
