Sally A. Eaken

Eaken_SallySally A. Eaken, 78, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015, in Medina. Sally was born November 13, 1936 in Lodi, to the late Paul and Irene Szaniszlo. She was a lifetime Medina resident and member of the Medina United Church of Christ, Congregational.

Sally was a retired school treasurer working at Ashland County JVS for 12 years; Medina City Schools for 10 years and Medina JVS for 20 years. She was a Medina County Court Deputy Clerk, member of the Ohio Association of School Business Officials, Tri County Treasurers Association, and Medina County Federal Credit Union, where she was on the Board of Directors and Past President. Sally was also a longstanding member of the Lund Loni Circle of King’s Daughters and Sons, and when she lived at Camelot Place, she enjoyed her time interviewing residents and writing articles for the Resident Spotlight in their monthly publication.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Carrie (Carl) Powell of Canton, Michigan; cherished granddaughter, Tiffany (Powell) (Jay) Baskette of Cuyahoga Falls; dear brother, Paul (Susan Twigg) Szaniszlo of Austin, Texas; nephew, Christopher (Chesney) Szaniszlo of Austin, Texas; great-nephew, Lee Szaniszlo; niece, Juli (Szaniszlo) (Chuck) Powell of Austin, Texas; great-niece, Lily Powell; and great-nephew, Matthew Powell. Sally is also survived by extended family members and dear friends.

Sally is preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Dick” Eaken, to whom she was married 57 years.

Family will receive friends Sunday, February 8, from 1 until 4 P.M., at the Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. Services will be held Monday, February 9, at 11 A.M., in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery.
