Laurie L. Sumney, 69, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2014 in Medina, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born June 30, 1945 in Avon Lake, to the late Michael and Rita (Dawson) Knuff.
Laurie was a bartender at the Holiday Inn in Fairlawn and Best Western in Medina for 20 years. She was also employed as a banking associate at FirstMerit Bank for over 10 years. Laurie loved crossword puzzles, her front porch and garden. She enjoyed traveling to casinos.
Laurie is survived by her beloved husband, Victor A., to whom she was married 50 years; loving son, Victor E. Sumney; dear siblings, Thomas Knuff and Karen Zilko; surrogate daughter, Kim Szerpicki; best friends, Rosemary Zimmer and Donna Bartos; nieces and nephews and many other friends and neighbors. She will be greatly missed by her faithful companion, Asta.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her precious daughter, Phaedra Sumney and brother, Michael Knuff.
The family will receive friends Monday, August 25, 2014, from 4 until 7 P.M., at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St, Medina. A time of sharing will follow at 7 P.M., with Laurie’s favorite nephew, Jim Zilko, officiating. Private burial will be held at York Township Cemetery.
