Thomas Gerard Cook

OBIT FLAGCook_TomThomas Gerard Cook, 72, passed away of complications from cancer on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Hospice of Medina County. He was born November 26, 1941 in Cleveland, to Anne and John Cook. He was a loving husband, father and friend.

Tom graduated from St. Joseph High School in Cleveland and Kent State University with a major in business. He worked in computers for Bobbi Brooks after college before enlisting in the Army. He graduated from Officer’s Candidate School and was a 1st Lieutenant during the Vietnam War Era. He worked as a contractor and then as a senior systems analyst for Bridgestone/Firestone in Akron. He retired in 2007.

Through the years, Tom was active in his church and various committees. He was president of the Board of Trustees of the Medina County Library system. He loved classical music, reading, cooking, traveling and gardening. He was a master gardener and a member of the American Hosta Society. He enjoyed making presentations to various gardening groups. Tom was a lifetime member of the Chautauqua Bird Tree and Garden Club of Chautauqua Institution, New York.

Tom will be dearly missed by his loving best friend and wife, Karen; his daughter, Jennifer (Eric) Langlotz. He was very fond of his granddaughters, Sophia and Eve Langlotz; grandson, Benjamin Wickline; and step grandchildren, Matt, Nick, Chelsea and Christopher Wickline.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Amanda (Warren) Wickline; parents, John and Anne Cook; in-laws, Robert and Helen Jensen; sister-in-law, Valerie Miller; and niece, Tania Jensen.

The family would like to thank the Hospice of Medina County staff and volunteers for their wonderful support and care of Tom, Karen and Jennifer.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Leroy United Methodist Church, 7 Park Circle, Westfield Center. The Reverend Doctor David Rittgers will officiate. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 A.M. before the service at 11 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Tom’s memory can be made to Secrest Arboretum in care of Curator Ken Cochran, 1680 Madison Ave., Wooster, OH 44691 or Hospice of Medina County, 5075 Windfall Road, Medina, OH 44256.
