Anthony “Tony” Verdi

Verdi_AnthonyOBIT FLAGAnthony “Tony” Verdi, 80, of Hinckley, passed away peacefully Friday, June 20, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was born December 2, 1924, to the late Ross and Rose (nee Lizio) Verdi, in Cleveland.

Anthony served his country for 10 years in the U.S. Army, defending our country during World War II and the Korean War, and is a Silver Star Recipient for his actions in France during WWII. Anthony worked as an educator at Nazareth Academy, Byzantine Catholic High School in Parma, and as a guidance counselor at BHS. His passion for being an educator got him a nomination for the Teacher of the Year Award. Tony also spent his time as a coach for soccer, football, track and wrestling, and was the captain of the wrestling team at B.W. He also enjoyed collecting fossils and stamps.

Anthony is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Rebecca (nee Moore); his treasured children, Lt. Col. Mark Anthony Verdi (Kristen) and Alicia Rose Reinike (Kim); his cherished grandson, Andrew; and his loving siblings, Sebastian Verdi, John Verdi, and Mary Zindato.

Friends may call Monday, June 23, 2014, from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 P.M., at Waite and Son Funeral Home, 3300 Center Road, Brunswick. Services will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at 11 A.M., at Granger United Methodist Church, Granger, with Pastor Doug Lewis officiating. Burial, with Military Honors, will take place following the service at Beach Cemetery, Kellogg Road, Hinckley.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Medina County, 5075 Windfall Road, Medina, OH 44256 or Granger United Methodist Church, 1235 Granger Road, Medina, OH 44256.
