Thurman Lester went to be with his Lord Thursday, May 1, 2014, peacefully surrounded by family and friends. 2nd Timothy 4:7 I have fought a good
fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. He was the son of the late Clarence and Lula Lester.
He enjoyed hunting and working on cars. He belonged to the Streets of Gold Car Club at his church. He loved going to church. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Brunswick. He was a member of the FOPA Lodge 14 in Brunswick, The Masonic Lodge #58 in Medina, and UAW Local 1005. He was a native of Man, West Virginia, born October 11, 1941 and graduated from Man High School in 1959. He retired from General Motors Chevy Plant in 2006, after 39 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruby, of 30 years; daughter, Susan (Bob) Oldag; and son, Steven Lester, both of Brooklyn, Ohio; five grandchildren, Christopher Oldag (girlfriend Michelle), Adam, Brian, David Oldag, all of Brooklyn, and Samatha Lester of Parma; sisters, Isedora Vance, Estelle Aldrige, Irene Russell, Lillian Elkins and Geraldine (Bill) Grubb, all from southern Ohio, Linda Gillispie of Round Lake Hts. Illinois; sister-in-law, Helen Lester of Elyria; special brother-in-law, Bob Hamm of Aiken, South Carolina; and special friends, Sonny and Irene Jones.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Lester; and sister, Thelma Horn; and brothers-in-law, Herman Aldridge, Freeland Vance, Jim Horn, Bill Elkins, Ronald Gillispie, and Gerald Russell.
Pall bearers will be Christopher, Adam, Brian, and Bob Oldag, Bob Jackson, and Clarence Lester. Honorary pall bearer is Sonny Jones. A special thank you to all our wonderful church family and Pastor Carson Hall, Pastor Powers, and Glenn Gilby, and the staff at Siedman Cancer Center at Southwest Hospital, Parkside Villa, and Crossroads Hospice.
Friends and family may call Sunday, May 4, 2014, from 2 until 6 P.M., at Waite and Son Funeral Home, 3300 Center Rd. Brunsiwck, and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday, May 5, 2014. Services will be Monday at 1 P.M., at Grace Baptist Church, 3480 Laurel Rd. Brunswick, with Reverend Dr. Powers and Reverend Carson Hall.
