miller, velmerVelmer J. Miller, 85, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014. Velmer was born July 1, 1928 in Webster Springs, West Virginia, to the late Lawrence Velmer and Bessie (Gregory) Miller.

He retired from General Motors as a die setter after 37 years of service. Velmer was a member of First Baptist Church and was proud to be involved in the construction of the building. He will always be remembered for his love of the outdoors and gardening.

Velmer is survived by his wife, Clara Towell (Leonard) Miller, to whom he was married 21 years; daughter, Donna (Alan) Miller Duncan of Dallas, Texas; grandsons, Jason (Rachel) Duncan of Topeka, Kansas and Aaron (Jaime) Duncan of Dallas, Texas; great-grandchildren, Landon, Abigail and Graham Duncan of Topeka, Kansas, Makena and Lucas Duncan of Dallas, Texas; sisters, Janet (Carl) Singer, Lakeland, Florida and Janice (Gary) Gundlach, Medina; stepdaughters, Carol (Tim) Shelly of Wadsworth, and Patricia (Robert) Bower of Medina; stepgrandchildren, Matthew, Nicholas, Carolyn, Rachel and Christopher Bower of Medina, Cathy Periandri, and Eliza and Jackie Towell of Spencer.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alta Riffel Miller; sister, Wilma Jean Kinnard; and brothers, Elmer Ray, Oran and Harlan.

Services will be held Monday, March 3, 2014, 11 A.M., at the Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. Reverend John McCaw, from First Baptist Church of Medina, will officiate. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery. Family will receive friends Sunday, March 2, 2014, from 2 until 5 P.M., at the funeral home.
